My Reception class enjoyed the story 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'. We came up with our own story, and changed the words to 'We're Going on a Bug Hunt'. For our class assembly, we learnt Pie Corbett actions to retell the story. We also sang the Ugly Bug Ball song. It took us about 20-25 minutes. The parents and children loved it!

Year 1 Science Topic - Light 3 Differentiated Worksheets - Lower, Middle and Higher Worksheet, plus a word mat. Children needed to discuss sources of light during the introduction. Then, we sorted the pictures of sources of light into two hoops, whether they were natural or man-made. We then completed the worksheets.

Reception Report Writing We looked at the features of report writing. Then we read a report about chickens/chicks, including the life cycle of a chicken, as we had chicks in Nursery. Our topic was 'mini beasts', we we wrote a report about butterflies. We had caterpillars/butterflies in class. The children had observed the full life cycle of a butterfly. Year 1 - Theme of Superheroes. Read the story Supertato. DT project - design and make a Supertato. We used the TASC wheel to structure the project. Letter from the Evil Pea - I left ‘bad messages’ from the Evil Pea around the school. Whoever read these messages turned bad. My TAs were mixing up all of the toys, and sitting on the tables. The children were in shock at first! Then, someone decided to make posters that had good messages on them to turn everyone back good. We focused on what ‘good’ and ‘bad’ meant.

Year 1 Welsh second language sentence patterns. Powerpoint presentation - We read through it and repeated it daily. Word mat - contains vocabulary and sentence patterns. We also cut out the words and used them to play snap and pairs. Worksheets - contains 3 differentiated worksheets.

This was an end of year task. Children write about what they have enjoyed, their favourite memory, what they are good at, what they need to get better and what they want to be when they are older. They also draw a picture of themselves.

Year 1 Welsh sentence patterns - Ble est ti? Where did you go? Powerpoint - contains vocabulary and sentence patterns. We read through it daily. Word mat - this was used for independent writing. We also cut out the words and pictures and played snap and pairs. Worksheet - I used this for my lower group. They matched the vocabulary to the picture. My other groups used the word mat to write sentences in their Welsh books. My top group wrote with who… gyda fy mam (with my mum) etc.

We talked about valuing the achievements of our peers as well as our own. We held a circle time and complimented the person sat next to us. We then completed the worksheet. Lower - drew pictures of what they were good at (football, writing etc) Middle - wrote key words independently Top - printed it out as A3 - drew lines to write full sentences on.

Enhanced provision activity mats Early Years / Reception / Year 1 1 more and 1 less - laminate the sheets and encourage children to use objects (cubes, counters, compare bears) to find 1 more/1 less. Outdoor learning - laminate the sheets and encourage children to find natural materials to find 1 more/1 less than the number in the middle of the table. Worksheet - roll the dice and add 1 more/take 1 away and record your answer Worksheet - count the pictures in the centre column, then add 1 more/take 1 away and record your answer. To differentiate for MAT children, can they write the number. To make it easier, children can record answers using drawings. Early Years & Year 1 Literacy CVC Word Bingo Staff member will need to orally segment CVC words - e.g. pig ‘p - i - g’. Children will need to orally blend the word and then look for the picture on their board. When all 4 pictures have been called out, shout out ‘BINGO’ to win the game. I’ve included a Word Document (editable) and the PDF copy (cannot edit).

Worksheet - match the initial sound to the day of the week. Copy from the day from the word mat. Worksheet - cut out the days of the week and stick them to the correct initial sound. Worksheet - to write which day it will be tomorrow and which day it was yesterday. Worksheet - daily routine. Draw a picture/write what you do on each day of the week. There are some picture of our week for ideas. Seasons - draw a line from the season to the correct picture. I’ve included the Word document (editable) and a PDF copy.
