A very handy and flexible game (played in pairs/groups) which can be played a few different ways:
Option 1: Read it! Roll the dice, choose a word in the corresponding column & read it. If the child is correct they win the word & cover it or colour it.
Option 2: Spell it! Roll the dice, choose a word in the corresponding column, read it, your partner covers it & then the child has a go at spelling it. If the child is correct they win the word & cover it or colour it.
Option 3: Read it, Spell it! I used this for a mixed Y1 and Y2 pairing where Y1's had to read the words and Y2's had to spell the words.
Also included is a table showing all words in the phonics screener since 2011 and a blank game board so you can chop and change words to suit your needs!

A PowerPoint used during an English lesson on writing instructions using George’s Marvellous Medicine as a stimulus. This resource includes ‘boxing up’ templates, a reading task and a ‘bottle’ template for the children to illustrate their own ‘marvellous medicine’ concoctions (works well enlarged to A3).
A fun activity that can be carried out indoors or outdoors depending on the weather! All you need to do is print out the clues all linked to well-known story books (laminate) and lay out the trail. Children can work in pairs/teams to answer the questions and decipher the secret message! Answer sheets and certificates included. This activity is editable and would be a great introduction to a reading challenge or a ‘My favourite book day.’
This is a collection of 12 resources to use when teaching sentence types. This pack includes a great range of fun, interactive games and activities which I have used with a Year2 class. Play 'Guess the sentence type' the children can then make their own sentence type comic strips by drawing or using their own digital images or how about 'Spin a sentence.' Sentence Scoot and Four Corners are fab lesson starters and all resources are included in pack e.g. 32 sentence cards, sentence type signs and record sheets or perhaps you might want to go on a sentence hunt. Several of these resources would also be suitable as homework tasks.

(Example included) Using movie trailers for children to make inferences before they see the film is a great way to promote inference skills - editable template provided! Watch the movie trailers and see if the children's inferences remain the same. This resource can be used to support writing fairytale news. This pack includes 2 PowerPoints which explore headlines and fairytale crimes to discuss and use as a stimulus for children’s own writing along with blank newspaper templates and crime scene images. There are five sample copies of news reports which can be used as WAGOLLs (linked to Little Red Riding Hood, The Gingerbread Man, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Jack and the Beanstalk and The Three Little Pigs) & used to identify the features of news reports (I used post-it notes with my class for them to label the parts) and a planning template for children’s own reports. A useful wanted poster template is also included which could be used as an extension activity to help capture the fairytale villains whilst promoting the use of expanded noun phrases. N.b. Publisher & PDF copies included.
