These are great for setting expectations with students and help to motivate them to improve their behaviour along with positive incentives and rewards. There are 144 words to sort in the following categories: Short a words / Long a words Short e words / Long e words Short i words / Long i words Short o words / Long o words Long u words / Long u words The long sounds are influenced by the magic ‘e’ at the end of these words. Students will enjoy reading the brightly illustrated cards. They will sort the cards according to the vowel sounds read and place them on the appropriate mats. I decided to transfer those sketches in the form of visual cue cards and posters to help other teachers who may face similar problems.
