I ask students to complete this Post Test Reflection after each chapter test/unit test/midterm. It provides students with an opportunity to identify solutions and strategies for their learning improvement. I attach a copy of the form to their assessment and find it useful as a reference when conducting parent-teacher conferences.

LAB STATIONS -Significant Figures and Making Measurements, Reading Lab Equipment
This lab station activity will give students hands-on practice reading lab equipment. Students will visit six different stations: burettes, graduated cylinders, beakers, thermometers, digital balance, and rulers.
They will use station equipment cards to complete notes and using an observant approach students will learn to accurately measure the volume of liquids, the mass of solids, the length of objects, or the temperature of a substance. Results will be recorded in a data table to the correct number of significant figures.
This active learning approach will help students apply their knowledge and understanding of significant figures and precision in measurements.

This four-page resource is a set of items to support the learning of significant figures related to making measurements and reading scales on lab apparatus and equipment, (rulers, graduated cylinders, etc.) for use in chemistry or measurement classes.
I like to teach the students how to work out the value of a division on a scale and then read scales to the correct number of significant figures. The notes can be used as an introduction or review of making measurements.
The student templates provide a guide for teachers and students to work through in class. Once the notes have been completed, students can then complete the two pages of practice problems.
