Scale Drawing etc Codebreaker

(1)
The usual business: answers some maths questions, find the letters from the table and get the punchline to a terrible joke. Ideal for starters, plenaries, whatever you like (you’re an adult).
New Homework Sheets - February 2020

New Homework Sheets - February 2020

(0)
More homework tasks with QR code allowing students to access a tutorial video if required. These involve algebraic fractions, more circle theorems, partially simplified surds (so students can’t just use their calculator), proportion, vectors (more complicated questions involving collinear vectors), truncation, trigonometry in right-angled triangles and others. There are 23 new sheets with answers in this bunch.

Building Blocks Bundle

(1)
These tasks allow students to build up the challenge by completing increasingly challenging questions on a given topic; ideal for end of topic tasks, revision or AfL. All these are available for free but if you are short of time…

Volume and Surface Area of Prisms Codbreaker

(0)
Two jokes to be discovered: one on surface area and one on volume. Students answer the questions and reveal a cheesy, fish-related pun. These are useful for starters, plenaries, main tasks or online lessons as the answer reveals itself meaning that students can just get on or check if nothing is being spelt out.
Enlargement Codbreaker

Enlargement Codbreaker

(1)
Perform the fish enlargements to generate the letters that form the punchline to a rather lame fish pun. These are all enlargements by scale factor 2 or 0.5 but there are no negative scale factors. There are some letters that aren’t used in an attempt to avoid students guessing the answer.

Factorising Quadratics (a>1) Codbreaker

(1)
We’ve had a bit of an obsession with factorising quadratics with a coefficient of x squared greater than 1 at school this week so I produced this codbreaker to add a fish pun to the mix. They do get quite challenging but that’s kind of the point…
Coordinates On Graphs Codbreaker

Coordinates On Graphs Codbreaker

(1)
Find the missing values in each coordinate given the equation of the graph to reveal the fish-related joke. Ideal for use in the classroom, online or as a homework task.
Coordinate Relationships Codbreaker

Coordinate Relationships Codbreaker

We are about to teach coordinates alongside sequences so thought that this might work nicely. It’s the usual “work out the answers and reveal the punchline” caper, something that works well in class, online and as a homework. The students seem to enjoy the competitive nature of these even if they do groan at the jokes.

Distance Between Two Points Codbreaker

(1)
The usual answer the questions then reveal the fish joke. These have always been popular in my classroom, as well as working well online. I know some people have used these as homework tasks too. The benefit of these types of resources is that students will see that it is spelling out words and therefore know they are fine allowing the teacher to help those who need it.

Surds (Partially Simplified) Codbreaker

(1)
This is designed to prevent students from being entirely reliant on their calculators, although there are some where a calculator can be used. It’s the usual stuff: answer the questions and reveal a fish/sea creature-related joke. Useful in class, online or as a homework.
Average and Range Codbreaker

Average and Range Codbreaker

(1)
Answer the average and range questions to reveal the aquatic joke; this involves basic calculations, averages problems and a frequency table. These are useful in the classroom, online and as a homework task.
Sequences (Position-to-Term Rules) Codbreaker

Sequences (Position-to-Term Rules) Codbreaker

(0)
Students can use the nth term to answer these sequence questions but it doesn’t push them that way. The joke is cheesy but you’ve probably come to expect that by now… ideal in class, online or as a homework.
Probability Codbreaker

Probability Codbreaker

(1)
A little bit of mutually exclusive but otherwise normal probability question all to discover a probability related fish gag. These work in class, online or as a homework.
