I have been a teacher for over 20 years - all the stuff I upload has been tried and tested in my classroom. I don't mind a discussion on Twitter too where I also share new resources. I now have a personal website: https://andylutwyche.com/

Solving Equations - Find Your Level

This works its way up from solving very basic equations (grade G/1) to solving quadratic equations graphically (grade A*/9) via letters on both sides and quadratics (various methods) through a series of questions on the topic and more practice questions if required. Students click through based upon their ability to answer the questions and should allow them to focus their revision at the correct point.

Ratio and Proportion - Find Your Level

(0)
This works its way up from simplifying basic ratios (grade D/3) to real life ratio problems including recipes (grade C/4) onto conversion graphs (C/4) then direct and inverse proportion including their graphs (A/7) through a series of questions on the topic and more practice questions if required. Students click through based upon their ability to answer the questions and should allow them to focus their revision at the correct point.

Indices and Standard Form - Find Your Level

(0)
This works its way up from very basic simplifying of indices (grade F/1) or reading/writing in standard form (D/3) to simplifying algebraically with negative and fractional indices (grade A/8) and calculating in standard form (B/7) through a series of questions on the topic and more practice questions if required. Students click through based upon their ability to answer the questions and should allow them to focus their revision at the correct point.

Solving Equations Codebreaker 4

Discover the punchline to the lame joke (I use it in class on a regular basis) by solving the equations involving brackets and fractional parts. I have got "Solving Equations Codebreakers 1, 2 and 3" elsewhere, uploaded a while ago.

Save Our Satellite - Simultaneous Equations

Save Our Satellite - Simultaneous Equations: Trying to find a real life example of where we might solve simultaneous equations graphically I came up with this. Students have to plot to linear graphs and find the point of impact. You could bring in Pythagoras and find out if the two bodies were travelling at the same speed would they actually collide, but I wanted to keep the worksheet to one side of A4.

Percentage Changes In Football Wages

This is a worksheet with tables using actual data released by the PFA and came from an investigation by the BBC's Football Focus. It's all quite straight forward stuff, but might open student eyes somewhat! Students use he data to calculate percentage changes.

I wanted something mathematical for the last lesson of term so came up with this. There are two versions, foundation and higher, so take your pick.

Rotate Spidey in the the correct quadrants to capture his enemies. I have produced the Notebook file to save on printing.

Collective Memory - Add,Subtract,Multiply,Divide

Inspired by mrbarton's collective memory tasks that my classes have enjoyed I wrote these for some lower ability classes I teach. There are calculations for them to do too. If you don't know how they work, get students in groups of 3/4, show the file on the board for 30 seconds and they try to copy what they remember from it (no writing whilst file is being shown). Show the file a total of 4 or 5 times. Great for discussions etc.

Woody and Buzz's Mathematical Adventure

This is just a general, 'end-of-term' activity containing a few different, and fairly simple maths problems, including co-ordinates, locus, Pythagoras/trigonometry/scale drawing, conversion, solving linear equations, ratio, substitution. It is designed for most students to do.

Calculate the upper and lower bounds of the amount of spinach in a can, what each gram of spinach will allow Popeye to lift and various other stuff.

Look at the first draft of Santa's survey and improve it, saying what was wrong with his original questions.
