Year 6 Geography Taster Session
This is a one hour lesson taught as a 'taster' for Geography during year 6 transition week in Secondary school. It was taught to a large, mixed ability class of year 6 students to inspire an interest in Geography. The lesson focus is on animal adaptations, looking at the reason for adaptation and examples of it. The tasks are very collaborative including a 'draw what you hear' paired activity and an animal design activity. Fully resourced.

AQA GCSE Geography Tropical Rainforests Takeaway Homework
Created as part of the AQA GCSE Geography Tropical Rainforests Unit (Living World). A set of homework tasks in the style of a restaurant menu. Each course has a specific focus:
Appetiser - key words revision
Starter - recall 3 facts activity
Main - 9 mark question
Dessert - skills question (based on maps/ graphs/ photographs)
To finish - A research task to further expand their knowledge and understanding
Students have a choice of question and can be set a certain task/ combination of tasks depending on the focus of the homework e.g. practicing 9 mark questions. The Football War
A KS3 Geography lesson from a year 9 war and conflicts SoW. The lesson introduces
students to the 4 day war that was sparked by a world cup qualifier between El Salvador and Honduras. This lesson was created to capture the interest of a challenging boy-heavy class. Coasts - hard and soft engineering.
A KS3 Geography lesson introducing coastal hard and soft engineering strategies. It was originally taught to a mixed ability year 8 class but could easily be adapted for GCSE. The lesson includes a carousel activity and a paired decision making activity. The carousel activity has been differentiated - the worksheets are colour coded to allow lower ability students to access the information easily. The decision making activity incorporates numeracy into the lesson as students are required to work within a budget. Fully resourced.
Secondary Geography Taster Session
These resources were used as part of a carousel activity during a Summer School event for year 7 students before they joined high school. The students were split into groups and spent 20 minutes on each of the tasks that covered different aspects of Geography. Activities include:
1. Making a jigsaw of Pangaea
2. Designing earthquake proof buildings
3. Designing a 7* Dubai hotel
4. Designing traditional African masks
5. Creating a shoe box that could be sent to Syrian child refugees
All activities were enjoyed by students and encouraged them to work as part of a team while promoting enthusiasm for Geography.
Tectonics Revision Dominoes
A GCSE Geography revision activity on the topic of tectonic processes and landforms. The dominoes can be used in pairs/ groups to allow students to work together to form the chain of key terms and definitions. Alternatively, the cards can be distributed throughout the class and students can take it in turns to read out their cards and the next student must identify their key term, stand up and read it out.
