Avalanches
A Geography lesson introducing avalanches to a low ability year 9 class. Could also be used with year 7 and 8 classes. The lesson explores the characteristics, causes and impacts of avalanches. Video clips, senses board and worksheet are all included.
Truman: Right or Wrong?
A KS3 History lesson that was part of a World War Two SOW. Students investigate whether President Truman was right to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They look at a variety of sources of evidence including reconstruction videos, witness statements and photographic evidence. The task is completed in groups and and the final activity requires students to come to an overall decision - was Truman right or wrong? Fully resourced.
Sand Dune Protection
A KS3 Geography lesson investigating the work and importance of the Sefton sand dune rangers. The lesson includes a mix of collaborative and independent learning activities. Students identify rangers activities through image inquiry, video clips and discussion. They imagine a day in the life of a ranger by creating a diary account and design a rangers rucksack to help them complete their work. Sand Dune Species
A lesson on the endangered species found in a sand dune ecosystem - focusing on the Sefton Coast in North West England. Taught to a mixed ability year 8 class but could be used for any KS3 class. The Football War
A KS3 Geography lesson from a year 9 war and conflicts SoW. The lesson introduces
students to the 4 day war that was sparked by a world cup qualifier between El Salvador and Honduras. This lesson was created to capture the interest of a challenging boy-heavy class. The main tasks include map work, a timeline card sort activity and a discussion of how responsible football was in causing the war. Fully resourced.
Coastal Zones
The fourth lesson in the Coastal Systems and Landscapes unit of the new AQA A Level Geography specification. This lesson introduces the different zones of the coast to students. The starter is a 10 question quiz on wave type and the plenary is an exam question. Students make notes on the accompanying A3 worksheet.
Waterfall and Gorge Formation
A creative lesson to teach GCSE students how waterfalls are formed. Created for the new AQA GCSE Geography specification. The main activities include annotated window sketches and play-doh sequencing. Challenge tasks included for stretch and challenge. Fully resourced.
Year 6 Geography Taster Session
This is a one hour lesson taught as a 'taster' for Geography during year 6 transition week in Secondary school. It was taught to a large, mixed ability class of year 6 students to inspire an interest in Geography. The lesson focus is on animal adaptations, looking at the reason for adaptation and examples of it. The tasks are very collaborative including a 'draw what you hear' paired activity and an animal design activity. Fully resourced.
Geography Skills: Population Pyramids
A KS3/ KS4 Geography lesson to improve skills with a focus on population pyramids. Students draw their own population pyramid using UK data. They then describe and explain the patterns in the population pyramid. The final task requires them to compare population pyramids from 4 different countries. Differentiated with extra support for the less able and challenge tasks for the more able. Fully resourced.

Economic and Social Measures of Development
Lesson 2 of The Changing Economic World section of the New AQA Geography GCSE. The lesson introduces a range of development indicators to students, with a focus on HDI and GNI. Secondary Geography Taster Session
These resources were used as part of a carousel activity during a Summer School event for year 7 students before they joined high school. The students were split into groups and spent 20 minutes on each of the tasks that covered different aspects of Geography. Activities include:
1. Making a jigsaw of Pangaea
2. Designing earthquake proof buildings
3. Designing a 7* Dubai hotel
4. Designing traditional African masks
5. Creating a shoe box that could be sent to Syrian child refugees
All activities were enjoyed by students and encouraged them to work as part of a team while promoting enthusiasm for Geography.
AQA GCSE Geography Coastal Landscapes Revision
A revision activity used as part of a Year 11 easter school session. This resource provides an overview of the key concepts of coastal landscapes. The first activity requires students to ‘calculate’ how confident they are with the Coasts unit. Students then complete an A3 revision sheet that is guided by the PowerPoint. Very useful as a short, intense revision activity.

This booklet covers the entire sub-unit of Cold Environments for the new AQA Geography GCSE. It was created to help save some time and get through the content quickly. It is split into 5 lessons that cover all of the content from the specification:
