This is an updated version of my 2016 powerpoint, which was very popular. There are lots of activities to keep them busy and get them thinking. It would be nice to get a few reviews on this one.

36 micro readings. On sheet one, they put the verb in the right place. On pages 2 and 3, they put the stem into the past simple and then put in the right place. After that, look, cover, write and check. You can just leave them with the picture prompts for this. For EAL students.

This is a grid with question openers and tasks going through Bloom's taxonomy. It avoids modals (would, could, should, might) and compound tenses and uses simple language structures that students at an early level of English language acquisition can access.

Some literacy activities for Christmas - 'how many words can you make from...?&' with fly in answers. Jumbled words of Christmas vocabulary and two Christmas pictures for memory games, with questions.

This is a 'Picture-based discussion&' topic. I put them in pairs and give them time to look at the sheet and make notes. One has to argue for the proposal and the other against. Great for starters in English or to develop more fully in PHSE.

A reading comprehension, with questions and language activities. Jack and Kelsey brave the journey only to find that the school is closed.

Quotes on various areas of life: happiness, success, family, technology in the classroom etc.... The students analyse, compare and contrast and make up their own. Each slide could be used as a starter to get your students thinking or to promote debate. They could end by producing an inspirational poster.

Activities which will suit literacy for biology, or general literacy. Or for when you need a few minutes... Brain gym, match-up, true or false, design, discussion, look and remember... I have sourced some of the basics from the net and done exercises around them. Hope it will be useful. I think this will suit years 5,6, 7.

The students decide which comment refers to which character. You could develop this by asking them to back up their decisions/give examples.

For early learners or for a mixed ability EAL class. The beginners can count and practise 'There is a __&' &';There are __ s'. Also present continuous tense &'What is she doing?&';etc. More advanced students can write about it in the past simple 'The school trip&'. How did they get there? What did they do? etc. Also - good picture for Splat! and Hotseat activitiies. The picture is by Kait Eaton and copyrighted to Duck Egg Blue. I have permission to use it.

Eleven slides with maths activities related to 'Macbeth'. These are useful as starter or fun activities. I have varied the maths language; the maths activities are not difficult. The answers are provided and fly in.

A picture to describe, with exercises. The exercises are for EAL students, whlie the rest of the class get on and describe the picture. Key for the cloze and some ideas for using the picture on page 2. My apologies if these ideas are teaching granny how to suck eggs;-)

This is a summary for mainstream teachers with guidelines to make sure that EAL students are included in the lesson.

This is a 12 slide power point, featuring ten famous refugees. Each slide comes with a short activity and some questions. It will suit year 7 and will serve as starter activities to accompany books about refugees, for example ‘Boy 87’. I have used Comic Sans and this font is not available for preview on here , surprisingly! It looks fine on download. I hope this will be useful.

This is a desk-top mat for mainstream teachers with EAL students in the class. It's a short check list and then suggested activities for beginners through to advanced bilingual learners.

There are two sets of 11 boxes with a short paragraph. In pairs, the students discuss which of each pair is the best paragraph and why. They can 'mix and match' and create their own version. Next, they match the 11 paragraphs up to the pictures and put them in sequence to tell the basic storyline. I have taken the box layout and pictures from the internet.

A reading passage with true or false exercise and the students are asked to list all the words used instead of 'said.' If you use this worksheet you might like to do the E test with your class first. What it is is explained on the ws and there is a link to an article about it. (It's a personality test).

This is a series of pictures and comments about a boy's day to reinforce the present simple - what he normally/usually/sometimes does etc.. There is reading, sequencing, match up (sentences and pictures), true or false and a gap fill activity. Thanks to my colleague Sophia in Ukraine for the template. I&'ve done this for my EAL class, but it may suit younger pupils.

This is to get the students using higher level language and thinking skills. They have to use conditionals with compound tenses (would have done/might have done) etc to be able to debate/discuss different possible outcomes.
