I have taught A Level Economics at a range of schools using different pedagogical techniques. I want to make my lessons as interesting and engaging as possible and so create all my own content from scratch, which I am keen to share with you. I try to push boundaries, be creative in my approach and give students a learning experience that goes beyond simply passing their exams.

Economics Game

(0)
An AS economics game using true or false questions to solve an incomplete QR code. When scanned the quote says 'Education is the best economic policy there is' which was first said by Tony Blair. This would be ideal as a quick end of term game that can be used for revision. A teacher copy of the correct QR code and correct answers to the questions is also included. You can adapt the questions if needed to suit another subject.

Conflicts and Relationships Between Macroeconomic Objectives With Evaluation

(1)
A really good activity for the end of the Macroeconomics course to get students to link together the concepts that they have seen. I usually print the first slide off in A3 for them to work on and then we discuss the answers as a class. Students must come up with analysis and evaluation for six macroeconomic objectives and are encouraged to think outside of the box. On the next two slides there is teacher copies with answers for evaluation and analysis. The last slide contains some general evaluative points that students could bring up.

Extensive answers can be found slides 9 - 16.

Public Goods Lesson Activity with Answers

(0)
A group activity for AS Economics that gets students to work together to decide whether each of the goods is excludable, rival, non-excludable and non rival. You can then get the students to discuss how we define each of the categories, private good, public good, quasi public good etc. Can also lead to a discussion on how these categorisations may have changed over time. The resource includes the teacher answers and a paper copy that students can cut and stick with. My students all have laptops so I just gave them the powerpoint without the answers and got them to drag and drop the answers.

Regulatory capture (potentially stemming from information failure) 4. Policy myopia (short termism) and maybe unintended consequences from allowing drivers on the hard shoulder 5. Political self interest and conflicting policies 6. Excessive admin costs and poor value for money

This resource includes a powerpoint presentation on fiscal policy. It explains the types of fiscal policy, the impact on AD and AS, advantages, disadvantages, evaluation and crowding out. There is a worksheet on contractionary fiscal policy, a worksheet on government policy with answers and two class activities. One analysing the effect of an increase in goverment spending and the other is a true or false activity on crowding out in both editable PDF version and word version. I have also thrown in a 'chains of analysis' powerpoint for students to edit and compete to try to make the longest chain of analysis possible regarding fiscal and monetary policy. This resource includes everything you need to teach fiscal policy.

Unemployment Challenge Worksheet or Class Activity with Answers

This resource is a worksheet that gets students to categorise the different scenarios into cyclical unemployment, frictional unemployment, structural unemployment or another situation. Once they have determined what type of unemployment it is they must colour in the relevant squares the corresponding colours to make the picture. The picture is of a map of the UK. The colours represent the differences rates of unemployment across the country. They must answer correctly to complete the challenge. This worksheet could be used as a revision activity and the completed graph (and therefore answers) is attached.
