Stand alone 4 sessions of writing based on Francis (Literacy Shed). The children will explore the story, plan a diary entry and write it over 2 days. The focus is on how to make the diary entry the correct tone and use informal language.
Each session includes planning, a resource for the children (where needed) and a teaching powerpoint including modelled examples. The final write has a modelled example for each paragraph which can be used at your discretion.
Unit of 7 lessons based on Ilegal by Eoin Colfer. Covers setting description, action writing, planning and writing of a story. Includes modelled examples for each day of writing. Images have been removed but can easily be re-added.
This unit provides a series of 13 progressive narrative lessons which focus on creating atmosphere through the use of appropriate word choice and characters reactions, building suspense and using dialogue to convey character.
The build up of lessons uses The Water Tower by Gary Crew as the focus and then children apply these skills to final story write based on Francis from the Literacy Shed.
Each lesson includes a detailed plan, resources for the children (where needed) and a teaching ppt complete with modelled examples of writing. There are also suggestions for SEN activities.
Complete year 6 unit (including detailed 4 way differentiated plan) of 13 sessions of narrative/story writing based on David Almond’s The Savage. Objectives cover character, using speech for effect, dialogue to convey character, embedding speech, action writing, creating suspense, planning and writing a narrative. Lessons all include powerpoints with modeled examples. The final write has a complete model of the section of the story written so you can choose which parts to model and which parts to not.
A unit of 14 progressive sessions based on a combination of Cinderella Liberator by Rebecca Solnit and clips from the 2015 Cinderella live action movie (links to youtube videos provided).
Story planning focuses on conveying character using dialogue, actions and reactions and briefly recaps atmosphere and expanded noun phrases (modified by adjectives and prepositions. Sessions include a teaching PPT with modeled examples where necessary, detailed planning and a resource for children where needed.
Also includes one reading session based on a PC version of Cinderella and some inference questions.
