A text extract from The Magician’s Nephew with three follow-up sessions. The resources have been successfully used in a Year 4 class and offer a challenge in a straighforward and managable way. Session 1: a focus on vocabulary, scanning for words, finding definitions and synonyms. Session 2: a focus on retrieval questions and finding answers directly from the text. Session 3: a focus on inference questions and looking more deeply/ giving opinions from the text.

This is a text containing words with long ‘a’ sound for children to read and highlight, then 3 workheets to complete using the words highlighted in the text. The text and work is suitable for capable Year 1 children, Year 2 children and older children who need to recap on sounds. I have used this resource when tutoring Year 2 children, who need overlearning of sounds and find them tricky to retain. This resource would also be helpful for children with a dyslexia diagnosis.
