A lesson looking at the death of Thomas Becket. Pupils work in teams to investigate the death and start to think about why this event occurred. The lesson is heavily source based and starts to ask pupils why there are different interpretations of events.

Two lessons on the Black Death. The first lesson focuses on sources to encourage students to analyse why the Black Death spread according to the people of the time. The sources are translated but in archaic language to challenge and introduce students to the language of the time. The second lesson focuses on the cures and impacts of the Black Death and encourages an exploration of long and short term impacts.

A fully resourced lesson looking at Churchill’s role in the Bengali famine and the other factors involved. Includes a homework. Has been linked to the recent Black Lives Matter protests and asks pupils to re-examine the role of statues and how to redesign them to provide a more rounded history. Could be linked to Heroes and Villains in History, World War Two, Empire.

I used this with my year 9's studying Medicine Through Time. Its an auction to get them to think through the factors that affected Egyptian medicine using an auction style approach. Each pupil had to barter for the information they needed about the factors. They could do this from each other or myself. There are coins to print but pirate gold works better!
