Black History Month & Maths cross-curricular activity covering Marcus Rashford. GCSE Maths focused, although may be suitable for some high achieving KS3 students. Starts off with some interesting facts about him, then moves on to Maths questions based on those facts. Answers are included. Maths topics covered include worded problems, proportions, division, fractions, ratios, averages, money problems and reverse percentages. Could also be used for part of your Black History Month lessons, Citizenship or PSHE as many of the facts related to these subjects. The next in our proud to be series for 2021’s black history month theme. In this edition we look at Marcus Rashford. It starts with a quick video interview with him on the Black History Month inspired football boots he released in conjunction with Nike last year, followed up with some discussion points for you and the group to explore and some extended writing activities. There is also a design your own football kit exercise at the end too and I have attached a template for that from TES. Designed for KS2 but also suitable for KS3 Students

This is a Black Histroy & English Cross Curricular Lesson on Diane Abbott, the first black woman to be elected as an MP. It consits of a page long biography detailing who she is and some of her achievements and contains some articles written about her in the British Press. We have written some quick questions, some comprehension questions based on the text, some discussion points for you to go through with your groups and some extended writing activities which include writing newspaper articles, speeches, interviews, poster designing and diary entries. Answers to the quick questions are on the final page. Suitable for Citizenship, PSHE lessons on rights and responsibilities, democracy and diversity. Desinged for GCSE, but suitable for KS3 also. A KS2 and KS3 Set of resources covering bullying, racism and discrimination. We also examine the causes of racism and the consequences of allowing racism to happen. This resource is ideal for teaching KS2 and KS3 children about how to identify racism including, language, behaviour and the long term effects of racism both in wider society and personally. This resource also encourages children to reflect on their own behaviour and to question whether they have discriminated against someone due to their race. Children will learn what race is, why some people bully others, what to do if you see someone bulled or racially abused. The powepoint is 83 slides long. We have also included questions, discussion points for your groups and extended writing tasks throughout the presentation. Also attached is a seperate document with the extended writing tasks for easy distrubution and for homework etc. Also included is a wordsearch & answer key.

In this Key Stage 2 Lesson we examine the Black Poppy Rose, a symbol designed to recognise the contributions of African, Black, West Indian, Pacific Island and Indigenous communities to wars that date back to the 16th century. Attached is a short video from the founder, Selena Carty, followed by some questions and discussion points for your and your group, and extended writing exercises for your students to work on afterwards. I’ve also attached a blank poppy template for your students to have a go at designing their own poppy or having a go and drawing the Black Poppy Rose. We also have a GCSE lesson on the Black Poppy Rose which goes into more detail and contains a longer interview with Selena Carty, of part of a lecture she delivered at SOAS (School of Oriental & African Studies) University.
