This is a presentation on the nurse Edith Cavell, who sacrificed her own life for the soldiers she cared for in World War I. Use it as part of a lesson or for an assembly for KS1 or KS2. An enjoyable five day poetry unit to use with KS1 during the summer term. During the unit, children have the opportunity to read, study and learn two poems; one about water and one about the beach. They take a seasonal walk on day 3, in which they gather vocabulary, before spending two days writing their own poetry. It is based around an entertaining, rhyming poem called ‘Around the World this Summer’ and would be perfect to use before or after the summer holidays as a springboard to children discussing their own holidays or writing their own poetry.
