All the lessons contain an engaging starter, a whole class discussion or drama activity, written activity and plenary. Jewish Holiday of Purim - 3 Lesson Plans - KS2

This is a set of three lesson plans to teach children about the fun Jewish holiday of Purim. It is suitable for ages 7 - 11. The pdf plans are very detailed (11 pages plus resources). These lessons could be taught at any time of the year. Lesson 1 teaches children about the story of Queen Esther and includes a drama hot seating activity. Lesson 2 teaches children about how Jewish people celebrate Purim and includes a letter writing activity. Lesson 3 consolidates the previous lessons and includes two art activities based on Purim celebrations. Each lesson starts with an introductory session and finishes with a plenary session. There are also lots of opportunities for whole class discussions. The plan includes three differentiated levels of objectives and all the necessary resources. There is also an optional PowerPoint (This is non-editable. Click 'Read Only' to open) to accompany the lessons which tells the story of Queen Esther and how Jewish people celebrate Purim. This is a 4 page plan for an assembly (pdf) on Ash Wednesday, with a focus on the theme of consequences for our actions. The plan is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute! In this assembly, children listen to an Old Testament story. The plan finishes by introducing children to what happens on Ash Wednesday and how this is linked to the story the children have heard and to their own lives. A 30 page pack of fun Christmas themed activities aimed at 5-7 year olds. There are a mixture of numeracy, literacy, phonics and art activities perfect for the end of term. Examples include counting carol singers, writing acrostic poems and completing sequences among many others. Children can work independently on activities during this busy part of the year or they could be used as part of a whole lesson. A colour and black and white version of the 30 page booklet is included. A great way to keep learning going right up to the end of term. This resource is a set of 3 art lessons based around the theme of harvest for Key Stage 1. Children create three pictures based on Van Gogh’s series of wheatfield paintings. The key skills that are taught include creating different tones and shades with paint, pastel and pencil and experimenting with shapes and patterns. The lesson plans are very detailed and include a list of any resources you will need to get out of the cupboard. There are also details of curriculum links and examples of work from my class. I have included the PowerPoints I used for the series of lessons, which contains information about the artist, examples of the artists’ work around which the lessons are based and information about how bread is made. Also included are templates for the children to use. A collection of five non-fiction comprehension activities for year 2. Each booklet comes in 3 differentiated levels and includes answers. They are all based on the reading SATs paper, containing a similar style of questions. There are a range of ‘what,’ ‘how,’ and ‘why’ questions, some multiple choice tick questions and some that require more detailed answers. They are also laid out in the same way as a SATs booklet to provide the children with greater experience. Each booklet contains a title page with helpful words followed by 4 or 5 pages of text with several questions after each piece of information. All of the booklets are in zip files.
