Unit 5- Introducing Music Performance BTEC level 1/2
SOW for BTEC NQF level 1/2 consists of 17 lessons so far.
Year 7 African Music and Drumming
SOW learning about music in Africa and cultural differences, musicical elements cover cyclic patterns, Listening tasks, Learning to play Siyahamba on Djembes, Shakers and tambouines and Singing the verse in African.
Unit 1-The Music Industry SOW BTEC Level 1/2
SOW for the exam unit of unit 1- The Music Industry. SOW contains 36 lessons so far. Always updating and adding new lessons.
Unit 2- Managing a Music Product SOW BTEC level 1/2
SOW for unit 2- Managing a music product based on creating a CD. SOW starts with a dry run of the unit creating an audio book so pupils can understand how to use equipment for recording, and write essays and press releases etc then start the real unit focusing on creating a CD.
Year 7- Caribbean Music (Steel Pan drums)
SOW learning about music from around the Caribbean- Soca, Reggae, Salsa, Calypso etc. SOW based on pupils playing a set of steel pan drums but can be adapted to pupils using a steel pan drum sound on the keyboards.
Performing Arts Entry/Level 1 Unit 1- Introduction to the Performing Arts
SOW for QCF Performing Arts Entry/Level 1 qualification. SOW only 10 lessons so far due to updating every half term. Will update this SOW next half term.
Year 8 The Blues Scheme of work
Scheme of work about the Blues, First half of the Scheme of work is learning information about the blues and learning to play a blues piece of music, the second half of the scheme of work is learning to write their own blues scores including a walking bass line, 12 bar chords and melody without the need for technology (Good old fashioned way using manuscript paper)
Year 8- Samba SOW
SOW on playing Samba Music. Pupils perform two samba pieces, compose call and response patterns and complete listening activities.
Year 8- Music for Stage and Screen SOW
SOW on musicals and music for films. Pupils will perform, compose and complete listening tasks learning about musical devices used in stage and screen music. Pupils will cover the history of musicals and music for film and finally end the unit by using GaragBand to compose their own piece of music for a film clip.
Ukulele Knowledge Organiser
A knowledge organiser for ukuleles. This knowledge organiser works alongside my unit on ukulele ninjas but can be used and adapted for other ukulele SOW.

I've created a Knowledge organiser based on BTEC Music unit 5, i am using this with my Y9's to build skills and learn how the course works before they start their coursework in Y10. Editable worksheet can be used as homework such as revision or use it in the lesson as a learning mat.
Knowledge Organiser- Reading, writing and listening to music *updated*
Updated on 1/9/18 due to a mistake. A knowledge organiser on the basics of music, from notes lengths, instruments of the orchestra, pitch, to key words. Used in lessons for learning the basics, reading and writing music to using it to describe pieces of music during listening activities. I used this in my lessons and for homework (editable two page word document)
Knowledge Organiser- Music Sequencing
I've created this knowledge organiser to use alongside BTEC Music unit 7-Music sequencing. I used garageband in my lessons but this can be adapted and garageband screenshots can be replaced with logic pro or another sequencing program.
Describing music help sheet/writing frame
I have created this help sheet to use with Ks3 but it can be adapted and used with Ks4. I found my classes were struggling to really describe the music in sentences so I created this flow chart as a writing frame to help them listen to individual instruments and write about what they are doing in the music as well as referring to musical devices and the elements of the music. Hope you find it useful.

BTEC Tech award Performing arts Blood Brothers Knowledge Organiser
I've created this knowledge Organiser for the new Performing Arts Tech award. Pupils have to cover three texts so this knowledge organiser is based on Blood Brothers. The knowledge organiser covers the purpose of the play, key themes and contextual influences.
Skin by Rag'n'Bone Man- for piano, guitar, ukulele, vocals and drums
I've created this crib like sheet with all the parts needed for a musical futures style performance of Skin by Rag'n'Bone Man. I have created two sheets, one which has guitar chords on and one that has ukulele chords on. On the back are the lyrics which the chords above it to show pupils where to change chords. The lyrics which are in red show where the drums should be playing. There are two drum patterns one for the verses and one for the chords.
Ukulele Ninjas
This is a course like booklet that teaches the pupils to play the ukulele for 4 songs. They will learn to play ‘Im Yours’ by Jason Mraz, ‘Just the way you are’ by Bruno Mars, ‘Riptide’ by Vance Joy and ‘Photograph’ by Ed Sheeran.
The booklet teaches the pupils how to play the chords, where to play the chords and then teaches three strumming patterns for each song each sightly harder.
At the end of each song there is a grading criteria based on Ninjas belt colours. There is a blank copy included which can be adapted to your needs instead.
Also included is display resources.

Musical futures Band style 'Skin' Rag 'n' Bone Man SOW and work book
A SOW and work book on musical futures style unit of work for the song ‘Skin’ by Rag ‘n’ Bone Man. Pupils learn how to play the keyboard, ukulele and electric table top drum kit and perform as a band the song. Work booklet contains each section of music for each instrument, listening activities and a knowledge organiser. I make the pupils revise sections from the knowledge organiser for homework and then test them the next lesson the starter activities and the quiz at the end of the unit.
