Interpreting Data in A Level Biology

(0)
This is a one hour exam preparation lesson to show A Level Biology students how to answer exam questions which require them to interpret data. It begins by looking at how to describe data that’s presented in a table or a graph, and then how to explain data or draw conclusions from the data. There are lots of example exam questions which require students to practice each type of skill so that patterns in the structure to their answers and the mark scheme can be highlighted. Examiner’s reports for all questions are also included on the PowerPoint and in the student resource pack so that they can read them and reflect on their own answers as they work. Resources included: Powerpoint with all exam questions, mark schemes and examiner’s plus student resource which includes the same.

A Level Biology Exam Strategies

(0)
This is a 2 hour lesson which focuses on developing the quality of written answers in an A Level Biology exam. Resources include Powerpoint for the lesson which includes model grade A and grade C answers and mark schemes, word files which includes exam questions so that students can answer them before they see the model grade A/C answers and a word file from which you can make cards that have the model grade A and C answers on so students can analyse each answer and work out which is grade A and C. The lesson covers the following: Language tips taken from examiner’s reports. Revision and exam strategy tips specific for A Level Biology. How to use the strategy RDPA to read, decode, plan and answer extended response exam questions in in paper 1, 2 and 3. How to decode command words so the question is answered correctly. How to prepare for AO1, AO2 and AO3 questions. Model Grade A and grade C answers to questions from topics 1-8 so students can see the difference in language used, and compare it against their own.

A Level Biology Statistics

(0)
This is 2-3 hours hours of lesson content on how to answer the statistical test questions in an A Level Biology exam which could appear in papers 1, 2 or 3. It covers: Standard deviations and how to use them to determine significance Random sampling techniques and making measurements to avoid bias How to write a null hypothesis How to select the right statistical test: t-test, chi-squared and spearman’s rank correlation co-efficient How to use P values and critical values to determine significance How to write exam answers to secure top marks on this style of question Examiner’s reports for all questions are also included on the PowerPoint and in the student resource pack so that they can read them and reflect on their own answers as they work. Resources included: Powerpoint with all exam questions, mark schemes and examiner’s plus student resource which includes the same.
