This lesson deals with the development of youth culture in the 1970s and also the development of environmentalism. The first resource looks at the development of youth culture and explores the development of subcultures - three hyperlinks are included, a clip from the Sex Pistols, a short clip from a programme which analysed the impact of football hooliganism and also a clip looking at the emergence of the skinhead movement. There is a set of notes to accompany the lesson. The second lesson on environmentalism introduces students to the topic and includes a set of notes.

This lesson explores the divided oppostion during the early years of Thatcher. There is a revision of why Labour remained in opposition for so long as students review the governments of Wilson and Callaghan. The formation of the SDP is analysed and there are two hyperlinked video clips which look at the impact of the party. Students are asked to rank reasons why there was divided opposition and form a judgement. A card sort and handout is also provided. There is also a handout included with information on Thatcher’s key ministers which was the homework task from the previous lesson.

This is a lesson which consolidates the social and cultural changes of the 1960s and gives students the opportunity to engage in their own research. A blank table is provided which students will complete once they have completed research. Students will be expected to present their findings to the rest of the group. The AQA textbook by Sally Waller is mentioned as a reference point but any good A level textbook would suffice.

Three lessons which cover the social changes during the 1960s. The first lesson explores four key developments, the abolition of capital punishment, the legalistion of abortion, the decriminalisation of homosexuality and the divorce act. There is information on each area plus an embedded video clip. Students are required to complete the included table. The second and third lesson explore the issue of education; the first lesson looking at the development of the comprehensive system and the second lesson, the development of higher education and the open university. There is an embedded video clip in each lesson, a source to analyse within the education lesson and an essay to plan within the higher education lesson.

This is the first three lessons which cover the AQA Modern Britain syllbabus, the impact of Thatcherism. There is an introduction to Thatcher as a leader which deals with ideology and the second lesson explores why Thatcher was victorious in the 1983 and 1987 elections. The third lesson examines why Thatcher was successful by analyising the divided opposition. There are printed notes with each lesson and hyperlinked clips throughout.

This is a lesson which covers Industrial relations under Harold Wilson. There is a powerpoint included which looks at the role of a trade union and why they are important. A short video clip is included as an introduction to the strikes which began during this period. Students are then given a short task to complete to help them to understand why industrial relations deteriorated during this period. Students will need to have access to the Sally Waller AQA textbook in order to complete the remaining tasks. This is a complete lesson which looks at the issues for the Labour government caused by the divisisions within the party. The lesson begins when Labour won the 1966 election and why there were divisions in the party at this point. The lesson looks at the Labour defeat in the 1970 election and how/why the divisions contributed to this. The lesson concludes with the planning of an essay based on the reasons why Labour lost the 1970 election. There is a powerpoint included with a short video clip on the 1966 election together with two sets of notes; one on Labour divisions and one on the 1970 election. There is also a planning sheet to help with the essay.
