I have used the level 3 - 5 science APP statements to make an Xbox achievment assessment for the pupils called science live. It works like the achievements on xbox pupils get the black and white sheet for their books then get the coloured stickers when they unlock the achievement it is an easy skill tracker and really hooks the pupils in small prizes can be given for every 200 points unlocked to link in to your schools reward policy.

this uses the open letter to the kansas school board found on the Venganza.org website (or search for the church of the flying spaghetti monster) and in the letter there is a graph that links global warming to the decreasing number of pirates in the world, it is a good lesson on valid data and you can include other strange correlations to prove that not all statistics are good

if you drop raisins in lemonade they sink to the bottom, then float and then sink again. this sheet contains six theories that can be photocopied and then stuck around the room, i demonstrated the experiment and then got pupils to move to the theory they thought best described what happened and told them to be prepared to defend their ideas

a lesson plan developed on the digestive system - pupils modelled the digestive system with tights and mashed up biscuits and yoghurt however it could be models made by kids - the groupings suggested are 1 - high ability 2 - high medium 3 - low medium 4-low the lesson is differentiated and has a range of collaborative learning in to cover the digestion objectives it worked well with my classes who really enjoyed the practical part and all made progress in the lesson

A lesson based on kurt vonneguts story graphs - pupils sequence a simple fairy tale then produce their own stoy graph of the key events like the ones shown in the infographic and on the powerpoint - they then learn a little about kurt vonnegut the author before comparing their story graphs with the persons next to them and looking for similarities and differences in the stories as a plenary. they can also identify the main story type
