BIDMAS / Order of Operations
Differentiated lesson to establish the correct order of operations. Students can usually start anywhere on the first three columns, then brackets will need some explaining! Plenary of target number gives students the ability to be as easy or as complicated as they can with the "Target Number" sum to demonstrate learning
Rearranging Formulae Revision
A straightforward powerpoint to take students through the basics of rearranging formulae. The lesson starter involves solving equations to get students into the frame of mind to consider inverse operations. The powerpoint also includes some exam questions including more difficult examples where the subject appears twice. Some students might require some reminders on factorising and expanding within the lesson too.
Algebraic Expressions and Equations - Team Activity
An activity designed for students working in teams. Initial starter on Whiteboard, then students must enter the correct codes into the excel spreadsheet (correct answers turn cells green) in order to be the best performing team. I only let the students input their answers into the spreadsheet three times during the lesson and only make one correction.
Expanding and Factorising - Three Lesson Block
Covering the basics of algebraic multiplication and expansion of single brackets right upto double brackets. Worksheets are split into different abilities to allow for multiple approaches to independent work.
Straight Line Graphs - Alien Zapping
Students have to 'zap' as many aliens as they can by drawing three straight lines and writing their equations.
Sheets can either be laminated for multi-use or a purchase of some spaghetti allows students to experiment before they commit pen to paper!
Circle Theorems 3 - Tangents and Chords
Complete lesson for teaching theorems relating to tangents. Students draw and describe first and then apply the theorems to some exercises. As a plenary, students first fill in the missing angles before being presented with the word to accompany the exam question.

5. Enter codes 1-3 and review progress - cells turn green if correct on xls
6. Allow 15 Mins
7. Enter codes 4-10 plus corrections
8. Allow 5-10 mins for corrections and final 3 q's
9. Take in scoresheets, students complete a self assessment of topic (levels, targets)
10. Present Results
Plenary: open the box / review trickier questions (they will have some red against them!) - students reflect on targets and progress.
