(6)
A bingo activity focussing on students knowledge of classifying numbers as square, cubes, multiples, odd / even etc. A fun activity that can generate plenty of discussion, check prior knowledge and provide an opportunity for higher level thinking on the topic.

Algebra Blockbusters

(1)
Set pairs (or two students and a singleton!) against each other to work their way across this Algebra revision board in the style of blockbusters. Can be laminated and written on or give students two alternate coloured highlighter pens, which gives you a visible guide as to their progress.

Collecting Like Terms - Differentiated Lesson

(0)
A fully differentiated lesson on powerpoint and Word with notes to teach this topic from the ground up. Fun element of aligning algebra to the McDonald’s drive through and why we make terms simpler. Suitable for Year 6 upto GCSE foundation. With a misconception busting plenary.

Expanding and Simplifying Expressions with Brackets

(0)
Differentiated Worksheet with answers Recall Starter of collecting like terms Covers GCSE Expand and Simplify Questions, including where second bracket has negatives. Plenary leads to factorising (you can find that lesson on here too!)
Algebraic Multiplication

Straight Line Graphs - Three Lesson Block

(1)
A series of notebook files for teaching straight line graphs, with a homework and some starter activities. See me "Alien Zapping" resource for further straight line graph activities
BIDMAS / Order of Operations

BIDMAS / Order of Operations

(0)
Differentiated lesson to establish the correct order of operations. Students can usually start anywhere on the first three columns, then brackets will need some explaining! Plenary of target number gives students the ability to be as easy or as complicated as they can with the "Target Number" sum to demonstrate learning
Rearranging Formulae Revision

Rearranging Formulae Revision

(1)
A straightforward powerpoint to take students through the basics of rearranging formulae. The lesson starter involves solving equations to get students into the frame of mind to consider inverse operations. The powerpoint also includes some exam questions including more difficult examples where the subject appears twice. Some students might require some reminders on factorising and expanding within the lesson too.

Algebraic Expressions and Equations - Team Activity

(0)
An activity designed for students working in teams. Initial starter on Whiteboard, then students must enter the correct codes into the excel spreadsheet (correct answers turn cells green) in order to be the best performing team. I only let the students input their answers into the spreadsheet three times during the lesson and only make one correction.
Straight Line Graphs - Alien Zapping

Straight Line Graphs - Alien Zapping

(3)
Students have to 'zap' as many aliens as they can by drawing three straight lines and writing their equations. Sheets can either be laminated for multi-use or a purchase of some spaghetti allows students to experiment before they commit pen to paper!
Circle Theorems 3 - Tangents and Chords

Circle Theorems 3 - Tangents and Chords

(6)
Complete lesson for teaching theorems relating to tangents. Students draw and describe first and then apply the theorems to some exercises. As a plenary, students first fill in the missing angles before being presented with the word to accompany the exam question.

1. You need 8 groups. 2. Start with Smart file, then open xls scoresheet 3. Hand out envelopes 4. Stop after 5 mins (freeze IWB) 5. Enter codes 1-3 and review progress - cells turn green if correct on xls 6. Allow 15 Mins 7. Enter codes 4-10 plus corrections 8. Allow 5-10 mins for corrections and final 3 q's 9. Take in scoresheets, students complete a self assessment of topic (levels, targets) 10. Present Results Plenary: open the box / review trickier questions (they will have some red against them!) - students reflect on targets and progress. Enjoy
