PowerPoint to model the use of Numicon when subtracting a single digit number from 10. Animated to model placing a Numicon tile on top of the 10 tile and leave the difference.
Cards contain either squares, circles, triangles, crosses or stars and also a numeral 1-13. The dealer deals 6 cards to each player, putting the rest in the centre and turning the first card over. The aim of the game is to lose all your cards by following the suit or the same numeral. If you do not have either, you have to pick up a card from the centre pile. Joker 'WHOT&' cards are placed down so you change to a new suit. When a player has no cards left, the game ends and scores are added up. The score of any left over star cards are doubled; a WHOT card left over will score 20.
The Daily Telegraph's sweepstake form to use for fractions and probability, as well as following the teams as they progress or get knocked out. Useful for recording results on.
A set of 9 posters, each displaying a numeral from 1-9. Each numeral contains images to represent that number, as well as the addition number bond sentences and shapes with that number of sides. Thanks to The First Grade Parade blog who inspired me.
Bookmark designed for Year 1 Numeracy. Includes addition and subtraction words, hundred square, 2D and 3D shapes, left and right. Designed to be stuck in numeracy book.
Thanks to Simon Haughton's KS1 maths word mat for some of the images and ideas.
Room for child&'s personal Numeracy target on reverse
Prompt card designed to keep children on task and not asking the teacher what to do next. Also acts as a checklist when children believe they have finished their task.
PowerPoint plan on Snow White and the seven dwarfs. How many plates, bowls, knives, forks and spoons does Snow White need? Find the difference between differing amounts of these.
A tally and frequency chart made to record the number of siblings each child in the class has. Used to introduce and practise tally writing and interpreting simple survey results.
A board game designed to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee. Game board to be enlarged to A3. Children to roll a dice and each time they land on a square, pick up a Royal family card. If they land on a crown card, take a Queen card. Queen cards encourage children to take or give away money. To start with 5p in pennies. The winner is the person who ends up with all of the Royal family on their game card. If able, children to then add up how much money they have accrued. Could even extend by asking children to change their coins for the lowest equivalent coins.
Activity to encourage children to see addition and subtraction as inverse operations. To write the four fact family number sentences for a set of three numerals.
Could be then made into a fact family neighbourhood display with a variety of different fact families. I have kept to number bonds to 10, but easily amended to whatever fact families you want the children to learn.
A winter/Christmas dice game based on the old game Beetle Drive. Roll the dice to be the first to draw Rudolph, before adding up your scores! Thanks to Theminster and MissEBG for inspiration from their reindeer and snowman themed games.
