Produced for a primary school lesson on Ancient Egypt. Shadufs were used to irrigate fields by making it easier to transfer water from the river Nile to higher ground. Teacher information includes historical background, scientific terminology, photos of modern shadufs and materials list. Student task includes: making a model shaduf and guidance for testing the model. Format given as both PDF and DOCX

4 levels of differentiation dependent on Year group or ability. Students identify ways to transfer energy from the sun all the way to a lightbulb. There are options for alternatives on the open ended task: e.g. wind turbines etc. or natural gas. Clue Sheet can be distributed one clue at a time. Students should attempt to complete the sheet with as few clues as possible. Students must be aware of steam turbines and generators. Answer page available As a further extension, students can be encouraged to write explanations on the sheet.
