Title: Can a painting kill someone? Aim: To chart Sir John Franklin's expedition of the fabled Northwest Passage and find out what happened to Franklin and his crew. This is a lesson I've always wanted to plan and teach having studied Franklin when I was at Royal Holloway University. (You'll see the link in the lesson). Title: Where are the UK's uplands, lowlands and rivers? Aim: To identify the relief and landscapes of the UK. We've decided to teach it before Rivers, but it would make just as much sense to teach it before you start Coasts. I've done my best to 'sex up' a part of the spec that has Gove written all over it. First planned and taught: Oct 2018 This is taught at the end of a unit on China in Year 9 and my students love it. I originally planned it as an observed OFSTED lesson, so this is worth a look if you have an observation coming up. The lesson examines the claims of 5 countries on the South China Sea. There’s differentiation throughout, but really the best part of the lesson is the game. You might want to teach over 2 lessons, as I’ve found that 1 hour isn’t quite enough time.
