A document containing a large number of key quotaitons from Frankenstein. The document is split into characters so students can easily see who says the quotation / which section of the frame narrative is appears in.
This booklet was made for an SEN year 7 group to teach various skills such as character comparisons, understanding settings and sequencing. It is based on the story of Rumpelstiltskin which is read before commencing with the booklet.
A complete lesson, with extract, exploring the language Shelley used in the opening of Chapter 5 to present the creature and Victor’s reaction. Designed around the AQA Literature requirements.
A full lesson on the Danger of Knowledge in Frankenstein, using an extract from Chapter 20. It includes a slide dissecting the essay question (based on AQA Literature).
This is a full SOW with resources created for a top set Y8 group. It is written using differentiated success criteria that links to the AQA GCSE specification. It explores the gothic as a genre and introduces extracts from other texts. The assessment isn’t included as they are produced externally in workbooks but it was the write a formal letter to the local council to prevent Dracula moving to their local town.
This SOW has been written for a mixed ability Year 7 class but could be developed to suit all ability groups. It will also be suitable for year 8 groups in some cases.
The poems explored were chosen to demonstrate view points and perspectives which are not always explored in ‘traditional’ poetry SOW. They also focus, predominantly, on modern poetry so students can experience war poetry of their generation. The title of the poem is also the title of the lesson so they can be easily accessed.
A final assessment has been outlined in the SOW.

A complete PowerPoint with resources for a term’s study of Macbeth. This was delivered to Y8 and focuses on key scenes which track the character development of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. It uses extracts and key quotations to develop language analysis skills. It also includes creative writing tasks to demonstrate writing from a perspective and ends with a speaking and listening style group task.
These resources aim to teach the principles of writing to persuade using the acronym 'A FOREST'.
The first resource is to assess the knowledge students already have which is then used to reassess the knowledge gained during the lesson to help with formative assessments.
Students then read through the persuasive writing information sheet before completing the worksheet (I stick the examples around the room for students to find).
I then either get students to make a poster using the techniques or give them a pre-made one to identify techniques, dependent on ability.
This SOW focuses on the Ancient Egyptians whilst improving students writing skills. It concludes with a final assessment based around the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb. These worksheets/activities can be paired with class/ independent research tasks and various comprehension activities.
This SOW is designed to be used in conjunction with the film of Matilda. Worksheets have been designed to build on students current knowledge of character development, key events, descriptive writing and writing to inform. The letter template can be used for any writing you choose- I did a letter to a journalist about the chocolate cake incident!
I used this SOW with a year 7 SEN literacy group but the work can be adapted to suit a KS2 or KS3 group as needed.
I made this workbook to help my SEN year 11 group develop their understanding of basic English skills and techniques. Some topics we studies straight from the workbook, others were used before or after a targeted lesson on a specific topic.
