I taught in a range of schools for many years before moving into FE, where I found creative and imaginative approaches just as rewarding with adults. Most of my resources are concerned with giving control to the learner, through a range of methods. Some are great for just giving them experience of examination questions, and the chance to discuss these with other learners. I now concentrate on spreading the range of creations from UK KS1 to KS4, and across the Common Standards.

Based on Key Stage Two for the new specifications, this introduction covers the first part of decimals for Year 3 (UK), but is suitable for any age group that is ready for this level, or for a recap at a different level. The recap is based on simple fractions at KS1 and questions based on SATs. The main part covers the basics of counting up and down in tenths and recognising that tenths arise from dividing an object into 10 equal parts. Everything for the introductory lesson, including a recap of simple fractions on paper or slideshow, a main class demonstration/discussion show on decimals, and lots of activities for the learners. Hands on activities for generating deeper thinking and discussion of probability questions. Learners consider one or more experiment cards and cards with real data to predict the probability of an event. Is a new baby more likely to be a boy? Look at the data. Are all scores on two dice equally likely? Try it and see. Two-way tables are very popular questions, and great for getting learners to think logically. Progressive tasks from simply filling in the missing numbers through to creating tables from scratch. The new 2015 specs require learners to use two-way tables to answer questions on conditional probability so I've included a recap quiz that does just that - asks probability questions on a colourful quiz. Ten multiple-choice questions, with answers, in a PowerPoint format. Questions are on ordering, subtracting, equivalence, dividing and multipying. Ideal to be used on the IWB and suitable for KS3 and KS4 students.

Four games to play to reinforce solving simple equations and substitution, so quite suitable for year 6 and key stages 3 or 4. Throw the dice, and match the equation to the score. Claim that tile, and the next person throws. All solutions are in the range of 1 - 6, so easy arithmetic. But game can be adapted any way you like - solve all the equations first, then play the dice game to make three in a row, or four in a row. The second set is throw the dice and substitute the scores into the expressions, then find the numbers in the grid. Give feedback please, on suggested improvements.

PowerPoint presentations on using the grid method, plus a poster and an investigation into multiplying diagonals. Worksheets to practice multiplying and factorising two brackets, and lots of questions on solving quadratic equations, including GCSE examples. These have been enormously popular. I teach a number of people who are far more artistically minded than mathematical, so I produced some visual displays to illustrate equivalences. Run the PowerPoint, or print off some slides for display. I've also added a few posters by way of example of how you might use the individual slides. For classroom activity I’ve included five pages of shapes to colour for fractions etc to keep or display. A very full set of resources to use and apply Pythagoras' Theorem in a wide range of situations, from simple triangles to finding the length of a line on a co-ordinate grid. PowerPoint presentation with early slides reminding learners of the principles and knowledge. Later questions apply the knowledge and lead on to generalisations. Plus extra worksheets on finding perimeter of polygons and finding the area of a circle drawn on a co-ordinate grid. Surds and use of pi encouraged in line with 2015 UK curriculum. Plus a multiple choice starter to check learning before they begin, with six questions, and another multiple choice activity to use for homework, or as a simple starter in a following lesson.
