New Spanish GCSE: Verb tables

(9)
This file contains three pages with some key verbs in Spanish: the present tense, preterite, imperfect, future and conditional of regular verbs and the same tenses for irregular verbs ser, estar, tener, ir, poder and haber. The tables also include how to form the present participle and the past participle. This resource is a free sample of a much more extensive resource, my Spanish GCSE grammar booklet, which can be found in its full form in this link: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spanish-gcse-grammar-booklet-cuaderno-de-gram-tica-11984926 The full booklet is 63 pages long, and I have included a copy of the contents page as part of this resource.

This worsheet will help Spanish A Level students reflect about the use of different kinds of shots and camera angles in Guillermo del Toro’s film El laberinto del fauno. This is part of a much longer, detailed resource that covers a wide range of aspects of the film. It can be found here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spanish-a-level-el-laberinto-del-fauno-gu-a-de-estudio-pan-s-labyrinth-support-guide-1200244

New Spanish A Level: Discussion cards (Paper 3 - Speaking)

(2)
This is a free sample of this resource: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/new-spanish-a-level-paper-3-speaking-discussion-cards-themes-1-2-3-and-4-11934713 The full resource consists of a booklet which contains 72 speaking cards based on Theme 1, Theme 2, Theme 3 and Theme 4 of the new Spanish A Level course (Aspects of Hispanic society, Artistic culture in the Hispanic world, Multiculturalism in the Hispanic World and Aspects of political life in the Hispanic world). The cards contain (quite a lot) of factual information about the theme (a lot more than the sample cards from AQA) and three questions, the first one always being "How do you react to the information on this card). The aim of presenting the cards like this is to provide the students with a lot of ideas on what to say about the theme, as well as making them more aware that they always have to discuss the information printed on the card (AO2 and AO4). There are six cards for each of the three sub themes that each them covers, and each section is followed by a minimum of 20 questions to encourage the students to explore and discuss the topic further.

New Spanish GCSE: Photo cards (free sample)

(2)
This is a free sample of this resource: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/new-spanish-gcse-speaking-test-photo-cards-11959939 The full resource consists of a booklet with ninety photo cards covering in a lot of detail all three themes of the new Spanish GCSE course: Identity and culture (40 cards), Local, national, international and global areas of interest (24 cards) and Current and future study and employment ( 26 cards). Each of the cards contains five foundation and five higher questions (colour-coded, using red for foundation and blue for higher), the firsts of which is always “¿Qué hay en la foto?”. One of the first three questions in the foundation set always requires the use of a tense other than the present (past, future or conditional), whereas the others elicit opinions and additional information from the students. In the higher set, all three time frames are covered, with one of the first three questions requiring the use of a tense other than the present and one of the final two questions requiring references to the other time frame. The booklet also includes a student-friendly explanation of the requirements of the new speaking exam and a copy of the mark scheme for the photo card. The photo cards can also be found split into the different themes in my shop. They can also be found as part of a more comprehensive resource (a book with a multitude of role plays and questions for the general conversation) here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/new-spanish-gcse-speaking-test-booklet-role-plays-photo-cards-and-general-conversation-11959963

This double-sided mat provides the students of all abilities with a lot of useful language to support them when writing about themselves, their family and friends and their relationships. Page one contains a lot of vocabulary (nouns, adjectives, conjunctions, time phrases and intensifiers) as well as a series of scaffolding structures (“sentence starters”). The second page contains twelve key verbs conjugated in the first person singular (yo) in six different tenses (the preterite, the imperfect, the present, the future, the conditional and the present subjunctive). Finally, there is also a section on complex structures on the second page, with plenty of examples of comparatives and superlatives, conditional sentences (“si fuera…”) and negative sentences. (Note - please ignore the preview of the Word file, there is an ongoing issue with Word previews in TES; the file looks like the PDF shows)

This resource includes a lot of information about family life in Spain, followed by a series of questions for the students to show their understanding of the topics covered. The resource is written in English and it is meant to improve the students’ cultural awareness. It is aimed at GCSE students, but it can also be used with A Level students as a quick introduction to the sub-theme Traditional and modern values. Finally, it is ideal to set cover work.
French Studio 2 writing and speaking templates (ideal for cover work)
corcueracorcuera

French Studio 2 writing and speaking templates (ideal for cover work)

(0)
A set of five bilingual (French and English) writing and speaking mats/templates, loosely based on Studio 2. These mats are perfect to set cover work (students can use them to write sentences and paragraphs on each topic, use them to produce posters and classroom displays, or to create revision mind maps). I have also used them in lessons. Some of the activities I have used these templates for include: dictation: read a text that uses the language in the mats and ask the students to write it down. dicta-translation: read a text based on the mat in French and ask the students to write it down in English, or the other way round. paired dictation and translation: same as above but the students read to each other. “great minds think alike”: ask the students to write a number of sentences and then ask them to find out, by reading their sentences to each other, if someone else wrote the exact same sentences, thus proving that they are great minds. “stand up if”: ask the students to highlight sentences in the mats. Then read a text based on it and ask the students to stand up (and then immediately sit down) every time that you read a word or phrase that they’ve highlighted. speed reading: time the students while they read from the template, see how many sentences they can read out/who is the first to read a full text etc. And of course the students can use the writing mat to write their own texts. More mats will be added shortly on topics such as health, school and relationships.

Spanish A Level: Thunk Questions (speaking, thinking skills)
corcueracorcuera

Spanish A Level: Thunk Questions (speaking, thinking skills)

(0)
This worksheet contains 50 “thunk” questions in Spanish. A “thunk” question is a seemingly trivial question about everyday life, more or less sensible, that makes you stop and think. There are no right or wrong answers, that is not the point. The idea is to make the students think, encourage them to speak and be creative. They are not theme-specific, they don’t relate to the topics in the A Level course, so everyone will have the “knowledge” required to answer them. I have used this as a starter activity (often by giving each student two randomly selected questions and giving them a bit of time to think of their answer) and I found that some students loved it, some were incredibly frustrated by it, but they all tried and the lessons were always “fun”. It also provided a great insight into the students personality, as some of the students answer the questions in a very analytical way, whereas others take advantage of the “no right or wrong answers” rule to really let their creativity flow.
