A set of activities that I used with my Spanish year 7 groups to revise the topics of countries, local area, shapes and colours, geography and the weather, food and economy (as well as personal descriptions, clothes and a weather forecast). They completed the activities over several lessons, working in groups as a competition. They produced some outstanding displays.

New Spanish GCSE - Theme 3 (Current and future study and work). Writing exam: 90-word questions

(0)
This booklet contains eight questions that follow the format of the 90-word questions in the new Spanish GCSE writing exam. They cover all aspects of Theme 3 (Current and future study and employment), and they can be used in lessons, but also as an easy way to set useful homework activities for the students. All questions include four bullet points that the students are prompted to cover, and they explicitly require them to include references to three time frames and opinions (as per the AQA mark scheme). When possible, one of the bullet points starts with 'qué hiciste', a question which appears in many of the AQA samples and that some students often fail to understand. A similar booklet including questions for themes 1, 2 and 3 can be found in this link: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/new-spanish-gcse-writing-exam-practice-90-word-questions-11820179

A booklet with eight 90 word questions to revise the theme of Identity and culture of the new French GCSE exam. There are two questions for each of the topics in Theme one (Me, my family and friends, Technology in everyday life, Free-time activities and Customs and festivals in TL countries). Each of the questions contains four bullet points that the students are expected to cover; one of the bullet points refers to the past, another bullet point requires the students to use either the future or the conditional, and another one prompts them to say their opinion. Finally, the booklet also contains a copy of the mark scheme for the 90 word question, which is the same at foundation and at higher level. A booklet with 24 questions covering all three themes can be found here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/new-french-gcse-writing-exam-90-word-questions-11822119

Spanish GCSE: listening exam activities with questions in Spanish.

This file contains 5 foundation and 2 higher listening questions from and old listening paper (Edexcel 2010) adapted to fit the new specification. I find that some students are having difficulties with Section B (questions and answers in Spanish) of the new paper, and there aren't many sample questions in the specimens, so I have translated and adapted previous exam questions to help them. The listening files needed are clearly labelled (e.g. the question labelled SP2010F1 is from the Spanish 2010 Foundation paper, question 1.

A very comprehensive set of sentences (suitable for all abilities) and paragraphs (suitable mainly to higher students) to translate from Spanish into English. The full resource is 41 pages long (including title and content pages) and it covers all three themes of the new Spanish GCSE course. Each theme and each topic is covered in detail with a series of sentences of different level of difficulty. Additionally, at the end of each theme there are six paragraphs, aimed specifically at higher students, that cover the whole theme. The translations include references to a variety of tenses (present, preterite, imperfect, present perfect, conditional, future), as well as a wide range of complex structures (negatives, comparatives, conditional clauses…). Calendario de adviento. Actividades de Navidad. (Advent Calendar in Spanish. Christmas activities)

(0)
This resource is ideal to use with your GCSE classes in the run up to Christmas. It contains a series of activities (designed to be used as starters, but some of them could take longer chunks of the lesson, and several of them could be grouped together to take a full lesson) organised as an advent calendar in which the sweet treats have been replaced by much-more-satisfying Spanish activities. There are 23 activities altogether (one for each day from the 1st to the 23th of December), with a Christmas Song to finish off the calendar on the 24th. The activities are designed for GCSE students, but a lot of them can be used (or easily adapted to be used with) KS3 or A Level students as well. All activities are based on Christmas and Christmas traditions in Spain and the majority of them are supported by a printable worksheet (apart from a couple of slides for which the worksheet was not necessary). The activities cover a wide range of vocabulary and structures (with particular emphasis on using “voy a”, “me gustaría” and similar structures to talk about the immediate future), and there’s a succession of games (battleship, game with numbers), reading (correct the mistakes, draw a Nativity scene following the description provided, who is it, and two general knowledge quizzes), speaking (role play, photo card, be nice to your partner) and writing (with several writing frames). It even includes a template to write a letter to the three Wise Men (who reply to the students a few slides later with instructions on what they need to do to make sure they receive any Christmas presents at all!). A useful and (hopefully) fun resource for the festive season. ¡Feliz Navidad!

SPEAKING BOARD GAME (ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE B2)

(0)
This is a board game to get English as a Foreign Language to practise their speaking (and mediation) skills. It is based on games such as Snakes and Ladders, but since I have designed the board, I have explained all the peculiarities in the instructions. Each time the players roll the dice, they will have to complete a speaking, mediation (explain a graph) or grammar task. The different tasks are: making a speech on a specific topic. having a discussion with a partner on a specific topic. answering a question. taking part in a role play with a partner. correcting a common mistake in a sentence. If the player completes the task correctly they can stay in the box where they’ve landed. If they don’t, they’ll have to go back. All the resources needed to play the game are included: 24 grammar cards, 24 discussion cards, 24 question cards, 12 role play cards and 12 graph cards. There are a few special boxed to keep the game more exciting: the lift, that helps the players move forward or backwards a few places; the dice, which allows them to roll the dice again; the field, where they relax for a turn, and the grim reaper, which takes them back to the starting point. The game is designed for B2 students, but can be easily adapted for other levels. EDIT: PLEASE IGNORE THE AWFUL PREVIEWS, THE ACTUAL FILES LOOK FINE, AS SHOWN BY THE COVER PICTURE, A SCREEN CAPTURE OF THE BOARD.
