Bluebird and the Robot Whole Class Reading Weeks Planning and Resources Year 3

(0)
This is a weeks whole class reading based on the book The Bluebird and the Robot. These are all PowerPoints with differentiated resources - and the planning is in the notes sections of the slides. The slides are created using dual coding strategies to reduce the children’s cognitive overload and hopefully support children with SEN and EAL. Each lesson has a ‘Steps to Success’ section which allows the children an overview of what they can do in this lesson to complete the learning successfully. These use simple imagery to support each step and hopefully help the children remember each step. The lesson is based on direct instruction with the teacher modeling an example then discussing non-examples and then working with the children to complete an example together. At the end there is reminder of the steps to success and a diagnostic question yo help support your AFL. Some of the prior attainment (retrieval) task at the start are based on previous books the children have read based on our Rise of the Robots topic and these can be changed to match your previous books. Weekly Overview: Lesson One - Prediction based on imagery Lesson Two - Vocabulary lesson - looking at adjectives and finding synonyms. Lesson Three - Inference lesson looking at character’s feelings Lesson Four - Summary lessons - identifying key points using the 5Ws and then creating summary sentences.

Year 6 Data Assessment Sheet

This spreadsheet allows you to keep track of all your students scores from their practice SATs across the year. The spreadsheet is fully adaptable - allowing you to change the pass levels for each test; adding in your school's assessment levels and adding your students' names and class information. Once you have inputted the students' data, you can then analyse their performance in a number of ways, including: identifying how far they are from achieving a pass mark and looking at how far they have progressed from their last test. Finally, their is also an option to look at how the whole cohort has done, with an overview section. This section looks at the percentages and number of students that are performing at the different levels e.g. just below or are already on track at ARE.

This spreadsheet has been created from the Year 6 Interim Framework for writing; it allows you to assess a number of pieces of writing across the range of objectives. Although not intended to be a tool for final judgements, this spreadsheet does allow you to get a feeling for your students’ writing and maybe set some targets.

This is a blocked cross curricular project based on robots and climate change. This project is planned to take around three days with each section either taking between 3/4 hour and 1 and 1/2 hours. There is eleven lessons with eleven slide shows to accompany each lesson. The slides are created using dual coding strategies to reduce the children’s cognitive overload and hopefully support children with SEN and EAL. Each slide show has retrieval practice questions, vocabulary pages, teaching sections, activities as well as a review section including diagnostic questions for AFL. Some of the prior attainment (retrieval) task at the start are based on previous topics including: The Stone Age, Rivers as well as Ancient Egypt. However, these can be changed to match your previous topics. The project cross curricular includes: design and tech, history, writing (instructions and persuasive adverts), computing (animation and sound recording), Science (climate change). The project culminates in the children using Lego to create their robots, which use movements including axles, cogs, hinges and wheels. these are all based on the children’s prior learning. Finally, there is a topic booklet that accompanies the project. This includes tasks pages as well as review sections (linked to each lesson) to help support the children with their learning.
