Full lesson which outlines the pathogenesis of Staph. bacteria, the influenza virus and tuberculosis. Contains a case study of Staph. species and a TB card sort. Suitable for all A level biology specifications but aimed at Edexcel Biology B - Topic 6.
Perfect to check understanding of A-level Biology students, use as a diagnostic test to inform next steps. All multiple choice questions with mark scheme
Full lesson and worksheets which outlines Core Practical 5 - Using a colorimeter to investigate the effect of temperature on transport across the cell membrane.
Full lesson which outlines all the different transport mechanisms across the cell membrane. Also goes into some depth about water potential and some water potential calculations. Suitable for all Biology A level specifications and possible some higher level GCSE groups. Exam questions also included.
Short lesson which outlines the importance of Surface to Volume ratio. Includes short video clip and worksheet where students perform some simple calculations. Suitable for most A level Biology specifications.
Full lesson which outlines what the humoral and cell-mediated responses are. Also contains a simple card sort activity, students then use this to come up with and design their own flow diagram to illustrate the humoral response. Also illustrates the roles of the different types of white blood cell.
Fact sheet produced for students of all ability. Students should memorise all facts on sheet on sheet in preparation for their B2 Biology exam. They could highlight, tick off and annotate fact sheet. Facts should match up with key points from markscheme.
Full lesson which supports the Core Practical 12 - Using optical method to measure bacterial growth. Lesson and power point outlines how to carry out Aseptic techniques, provides sample data, sample graphs and will allow students to evidence the standards for this core practical. Also involves calculation of exponential growth rate constant.
This lesson relates to new Edexcel Biology B specification, Topic 6 Lesson 1 - Microbial Techniques. The lesson illustrates what Aseptic techniques are (using a card sort) and students then summarise in their own words. It also outlines the different methods of measuring bacterial growth, counting, turbidity etc. It includes a series of exam questions and these are also embedded throughout the lesson. Contains a step by step lesson plan which can be easily adapted. A practical on aseptic techniques could be incorporated. 100 minute lesson but easily split into two separate lessons. Also contains an exam question associated with the Exponential Growth Constant as per the new specification.
Full 100 minute lesson and lesson plan about Protein Synthesis. Includes differentiated statement sheets to assist students of all abilities. Suitable for all exam boards but was originally made to support Edexcel Biology B2 Topic 1.
2 x 50 minute lessons for Topic 1 Biological Molecules. In L3 Metabolism, students will learn what metabolism is and how it is a combination of anabolism and catabolism, this links nicely with the theory of Hydrolysis and Condensation reactions covered in the previous 2 lessons. (See L1 & L2). In L3 students will focus more closely on Lipids/Fatty acid and begin to gain a better understanding of condensation reactions and how ester bonds can form to make triglycerides. Essay questions and multiple learning activities included in both lessons.
Long Answer booklets I created to use with Chemistry, Biology and Physics triple Science students. Print booklet off as A5 for each student and use during the revision period. Suitable for AQA or Edexcel. 30-40 pages of 6 mark questions in each booklet.
Lesson 2 in the SOW for Biology B Topic 1 - Biological Molecules. In this lesson students focus more closely on carbohydrates and describe the key differences between alpha glucose, beta glucose. They also will be highlighting the differences in structure and function of glycogen, cellulose and starch. Molly mod kits are needed for this lesson. There are also an assortment of exam questions which can be used.
A full lesson, easily adaptable for a single or double lesson. Lesson plan can be found on first slide. This is entirely suitable for the first ever Biology A-Level lesson as an introduction into key Biological Molecules. This could even be used as a Biology A-Level taster lesson for prospective 6th form students. This is suitable for use with new Edexcel Biology B specification. Lesson also involves the active use of molecular model kits.
Simple worksheet also included for students to complete during the lesson or as independent study. The worksheet simply requires them to draw, name and describe the uses of Key Biological molecules.
I created a Edexcel spreadsheet with a grade calculator to help teachers OR pupils work out their final grade.
I also put all the BTEC criteria on one word document so it is easier to see/find. The pupils can also use this to tick off their criteria as they complete an assignment.
