This lesson relates to new Edexcel Biology B specification, Topic 6 Lesson 1 - Microbial Techniques. The lesson illustrates what Aseptic techniques are (using a card sort) and students then summarise in their own words. It also outlines the different methods of measuring bacterial growth, counting, turbidity etc. It includes a series of exam questions and these are also embedded throughout the lesson. Contains a step by step lesson plan which can be easily adapted. A practical on aseptic techniques could be incorporated. 100 minute lesson but easily split into two separate lessons. Also contains an exam question associated with the Exponential Growth Constant as per the new specification.

(As the majority of the Rocks content has been taken out of the new Science GCSEs first exam June 2017). This includes 9 full 100 minute lessons plus resources for each. The full scheme of work and lesson plan for each is also included with additional technician notes for each lesson. This unit is ready to use and implement and could save hours and hours of work for your team. We have been using this with our Year 8 pupils and it is a great way to introduce some difficult concepts early on such as Atomic Structure and Nuclear Physics. Please leave a comment.

This is entirely suitable for the first ever Biology A-Level lesson as an introduction into key Biological Molecules. This could even be used as a Biology A-Level taster lesson for prospective 6th form students. This is suitable for use with new Edexcel Biology B specification. Lesson also involves the active use of molecular model kits. Simple worksheet also included for students to complete during the lesson or as independent study. The worksheet simply requires them to draw, name and describe the uses of Key Biological molecules.

A series of posters I created and laminated in an attempt to create and ‘interactive’ class room in which teachers can use the starters or plenaries on the walls or even let the pupils choose them. Also contains a power point with a series of different levelled questions. Over 4000 minutes worth of editing time. Great for display boards in class rooms. Starter and Plenary essentials. One contains a variety of starter activity that can be used as a display or as booklets on the desk. The second contains a variety of plenary displays that can be used as a display or as booklets for the teacher to use. The other is a very colourful Blooms’ Higher order Thinking Board, we called this the HOT board and we get students to select questions and phrases to use in their exercise books.
