A variety of Chemistry assignments for the New BTEC First Specification. Feel free to use and adapt these assignments. They were originally written for an all boys comprehensive school but should be robust enough to meet the new criteria.

Clear definitions of pure substances, mixtures, formulation. Lesson also builds into discussion of heating curves, melting points, boiling points and how these relate to state of matter. Also contains example exam question and plenary at end. Could be incorporated into a practical lesson relating to heating curves. I used this as a theory lesson with middle ability Year 11 students. I created a Edexcel spreadsheet with a grade calculator to help teachers OR pupils work out their final grade. I also put all the BTEC criteria on one word document so it is easier to see/find. The pupils can also use this to tick off their criteria as they complete an assignment.

A powerpoint made up of 118 slides covering the Chemistry, Biology and Physics Required Practicals for the June 2022 exams using the Advanced Notice material. This powerpoint covers all the required practicals that will be examined in the AQA Combined Science foundation and higher content in the AQA Combined Science exam June 2022. The powerpoint also contains, exam questions with markschemes. The powerpoint should be used over a range of lessons or shared with students. This will take several lessons to walk students through these practicals and complete exam questions. Also contains exam booklets for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics for Higher and Foundation.

A series of posters I created and laminated in an attempt to create and ‘interactive’ class room in which teachers can use the starters or plenaries on the walls or even let the pupils choose them. Also contains a power point with a series of different levelled questions. Over 4000 minutes worth of editing time. Great for display boards in class rooms. Starter and Plenary essentials. One contains a variety of starter activity that can be used as a display or as booklets on the desk. The second contains a variety of plenary displays that can be used as a display or as booklets for the teacher to use. The other is a very colourful Blooms’ Higher order Thinking Board, we called this the HOT board and we get students to select questions and phrases to use in their exercise books.

Covers Biology Core Practicals for topics 1-4.

This lesson relates to new Edexcel Biology B specification, Topic 6 Lesson 1 - Microbial Techniques. The lesson illustrates what Aseptic techniques are (using a card sort) and students then summarise in their own words. It also outlines the different methods of measuring bacterial growth, counting, turbidity etc. It includes a series of exam questions and these are also embedded throughout the lesson. Contains a step by step lesson plan which can be easily adapted. A practical on aseptic techniques could be incorporated. 100 minute lesson but easily split into two separate lessons. Also contains an exam question associated with the Exponential Growth Constant as per the new specification.

each pupil was given an element from 1-20. They had to work out the electron structure of that particular element and make a poster using the templates provided. Part of the activity is the pupils choosing which template to use, depending on the number of electron shells their element has. Perfect for lower ability groups.
