This lesson teaches children about persuasive writing and different persuasive strategies they can use. It then gives different targets (success criteria) that learners need to achieve in order to successfully produce a good persuasive letter. It also includes two different example texts (one good and one that requires improvement)

This writing resource works well along the RSPB Bird Watch which takes place this time of year. Whether children are actively bird watching outside or simply learning about birds around them, it is a great way to engage with nature. This lesson models for learners how to research four different birds and take notes in their jotter. It then demonstrates how to turn these short notes into engaging sentences for their reader. Finally it models for learners how they can lay this out neatly in their jotter and include some of the key features of an information text like headings, subheadings, pictures and captions.

This Chinese New Year is the year of the dragon so the writing focus is going to be on a character description of a Chinese Dragon. This resource explains the five different aspects of a character that pupils should describe in order to successfully convey their character to their reader. It also provides a modelled text, and a table worksheet for them to record examples of each aspect from the text. This will help give them inspiration for their own story. This resource focuses on describing setting during creative writing. It begins with a starter which focused on personification and teaches learners how to use personification and create it. The resource then shows a number of winter settings and encourages learners to describe the setting using the five senses. This can be printed as a page for learners to complete independently or in small groups. Alternatively, it can be completed as a whole class on the interactive whiteboard.
