Hello! French and Spanish teacher in the UK (GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level, Pre-U). I produce worksheets, quick activities and sentence builder sheets. I have recently started to upload my work to TES, so if you like my resources, I'd be so grateful if you could leave a quick review. Worksheet to practise Spanish verbs in preterite and imperfect using the Toy Story song Cambios extraños ‘strange things’ - if pupils have already had plenty of receptive practice with these tenses, you could do this as a conjugation practice exercise - pupils complete the conjugations and then listen to the song and check their answers. Or, you could use this during the receptive processing stage of practice - by this point, they are familiar with the endings and this provides an opportunity to practise them through listening, they listen, and using their knowledge of endings and phonics, write what they hear. You could also ask them a few comprehension questions on the song or get them to find specific vocab or phrases, based on their level. Song available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmLInAm_u_k
A big quiz of 30 questions on the Spanish-speaking world - can be used for beginners, done aurally in class or as a research task. Answers are included in the document. Great for starting off beginners in Spanish to get them interested in Hispanic world, or as an end-of-term fun activity!
After learning about el día de los muertos / day of the dead, beginners can learn how to describe someone in the past so they can write a simple ‘tribute’ to someone that has passed, this can be turned into a seasonal display and pupils can decorate their tribute with marigolds or other flowers, photos or drawings. Worksheets include:
2 sheets of vocab activities to do (after you’ve introduced pupils to some of the basic descriptions vocab)
Sentence builder for writing a tribute - modelled answers in grid to help. This can be used to do dictations, aural translations etc. using mini-whiteboards and having pupils use the sentence builder.
Blank writing sheet for once pupils have practised enough - can be used as assessment.
A worksheet on Maître Gims's new song 'Cameleon' from December 2017. Filling in the blanks in lyrics, matching up new vocab, and some short 'find the vocab' activities. You could also spend some time at the start of the lesson discussing French music, Maitre Gims, Black M and Sexion d'Assaut to see if any students have discovered their music before.
A set of 5 activities and answers in Spanish for students studying Almodóvar’s film Julieta, at A level, Pre U or similar level (16+), intended for when students are about to watch the film or have just watched it. This is an alternative to my previous resource which used the same overview material, but was in the format of a traditional reading comprehension. This format incorporates 5 different activities, each of which allow for more active manipulation of the language, so it is important that the activities are not completed superficially – allow sufficient lesson time during each activity to focus on the content of the texts as well as the grammatical or syntactical aspects of the language. This content could be used for 1-2 lessons or 1 lesson and homework.
A reading comprehension in Spanish on some bullet points providing general background information about Almodóvar's 2016 feature Julieta. Intended for students studying the film at A Level or Pre-U. This is a good activity for homework or classwork to be completed either before watching the film or just after.
A worksheet designed for completion shortly after watching the film Julieta by Almodovar to consolidate understanding of the plot. They could either be completed as quite quick activities for students to quickly get an overview of the plot, or could easily be stretched out to cover a whole lesson with lots of discussion about the plot in more detail and students’ ideas about the themes of the film, the style and any other observations.
Intended for the study of films in Spanish, this handout provides introductory steps to analysing film, and a comprehensive glossary of vocabulary in English and Spanish with detailed explanations and examples. The examples relate to the Almodovar film, Volver, but the principles can be applied to any film. It is roughly aimed at students studying for A-Level, Pre-U or IB (aged 16+). Whilst this resource is designed to provide information, you can also create activities from it, for example, by mixing up the Spanish and English words to match up, or match words to definitions. Or, you could assign different students certain terms and ask them to produce a short analysis of these aspects in one key scene to present to the class.
