A lesson investigating the energy content in different foods: This resource contains: Powerpoint: Starts by discussing why we need energy/where we get it from/how do we know how much we are getting/what if we get too much or little. Moves on to instructions for investigating energy content in foods by burning them. Oppportunity to discuss variables and ‘how science works’ type questions. Homework/Extension task too. Worksheet: Contains space for student to write in variables (follows power point), contains instructions and results table. Space for conclusion too. Digestive System - Writing Task (KS3/GCSE)

(0)
Task - describe a journey of a ham and cheese sandwich through the digestive system. There is a ‘Level Ladder’ from grades 4-9 and things to include to achieve each level. This is useful for students so they know what they need to write about to achieve their target grade. Level ladder also helps with marking and determining a grade. I’ve used this for cover lessons, end of topic assessments and classwork that spills over into homework. Students generally get quite interested and like being creative whilst also applying their knowledge.
