Second lesson on the evidence regarding the potential benefits and risks form mercury filings. This lesson outlines evidence for risks associated with mercury fillings. Students use source material to summarise and evidence the arguement.

First of two lessons which guide students through the controversy surrounding the use of mercury based dental fillings. Source information is analysed by students to practice extracting and analysing ideas from sources.

A homework worksheet I have made for my year 10 OCR 21stC group. The worksheet has some basic information of the inheritance of Cystic Fibrosis and some questions for students to apply thier knowledge of genetics. Questions include defintion of a carrier and monhyybrid crosses to determine % chance of CF heredity. I will use this following a lesson on the casues of CF / monhybrid inheritance. Starter quiz containing images representing different diseases. Students study the image and say which type of microorganim they think caused the disease. Works nicely with mini whiteboards to intorduce a new topic on health, disease or microorganisms.

Worksheet containing a number fo tasks. Notes for each task in the notes section of the powerpoint. Side 1: Students match key termsm to defintions and then apply ideas about dominant and recessive alleles to determine the possilbe genotypes of two brothers. Side 2: Students design a monster by flipping a coin to calculate genotype, then use the genotype to wokr out phenotpye. Finally students complete a genetic cross to find out what happens if 2 monsters breed.

This is a double sided worksheet I created for my top set to use during a cover lesson. Task 1: Students write the key term that matches the defintion e.g. genotype, phenotype. Task 2: Students use information on alleles for eye colour to determne phenotpyes and genotypes. Task 3: Students use the genetic cross diagram on the back to calculate % of each phenotpye and genotype.

Card sort for AS Biology comparing the features of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Students arrange the statements inot 3 piles: statements about prokaryotes, statements about eukaryotes, statements that relate to both cell types. Slide 1 statments are sorted (the answer), bottom row relates to both cell types. Slide 2 statments are jumbled up so you could just print out and give to the students to cut up :-)

Covers key terms from the first part of OCR B2 'keeping healthy' e.g. microorganism, pathogen, antibody, antigen, immune, vaccination. Slides 1+ 2 make a domino or loop game. Alternatively, cut out the keywords and defintions on slide 3+4 to make a card sort.

Students use sheet to track their progress through the unit against 'I can' statements (higher tier only in bold). End of each lesson students can tick off statements covered and record their understanding . Students can use the record to target revision on areas of least understanding, track revision and show progress by indicating where understanding has improved. Students can also set targets against the statements and indicate areas where they are in need of support.
