Smartboard Journey to Space drama literacy recount

We pretended to go into outer space and set the classroom as up if we were in a rocket. The Smartboard was at the front, as if it were a window on the rocket. This was part of a fun topic we did on Aliens. There is plenty of chance for role play and drama. We ended up landing on a new planet,Kepler B22, and bringing back alien eggs which they had to look after. This lead to lots of drawing and writing when the eggs hatched! They wrote a recount of their trip. We also had a debate:Should we keep the eggs? Try it out-they will love it! Please leave feedback!

My 'Book Factor&' reading competition works best when it is whole school but individual teachers can also run it in their own classroom. Here is everything you need to start it straight away. There is a word doc that explains it all. It really does motivate children to read at home! PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

Smartboard Write a Ghost Story KS2 video link

We do 'Surprise Writes&' in my school on Fridays, once every half term (usually we do &';Big Write'), where all year groups (Year 3 to 6) complete the same writing activity. The children and teachers do not know what it will be until that morning. This resource links to a TES video story start and there is a link on here. The children LOVED creating spooky stories from this! The idea is that they have very little help when they write so that it can be assessed.

Smartboard Write your own Adventure story Yr3/4/5

This resource links to my other resource 'Egyptian Adventure Story on Smartboard&'. Once they have learned and imitated that story they are ready to write their own.PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! This is a very visual resource with lots of pictures of characters and treasures to help them generate interesting ideas. This resource works best when taught in the style of Pie Corbett (learn, imitate, innovate) The boxing up chart helps them to structure their story in 5 clear paragraphs.

Egyptian Adventure Story on Smartboard

(21)
In the style of Pie Corbett I have created a simple story, in five paragraphs, for the children to learn off by heart by adding their own actions. Create a picture map to help remember it (There is an example on the Smartboard of one). Then the children 'hug&' the text by using the story from the sheet to write their own version by changing names and key words (the words to change are underlined and there are gaps for them to add their own words.) I have created a separate resource where they write their own adventure story from scratch, which follows on from this.

Ancient Egypt instructions for mummification

(23)
Here are some detailed instructions, with pictures, to show how the Ancient Egyptians would have mummified a body. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!Use to help explain this process to children. You can chop up the instructions without numbers on and they can re order them. Pretend they are embalmers and do some drama where they imagine following these steps to mummify a body! They can do it in pairs! The children really enjoy this, especially pretending to put make up on the mummy! They could write their own instructions once they are familiar with the process.

Please leave feedback! This is a poetry idea by the excellent Pie Corbett, to use with Key Stage 2, which I have made into easy to follow smart board slides to use with the class. I did this in Big Write and it was my most successful poetry lesson this year. Enjoy!

The children are introduced to what a simile is on the smart board slides, which includes a link to some internet games. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! They then have to hunt for the similes in copies of popular books like MrGum, Harry Potter and the BFG. I photocopied pages from them-there is a word doc with the book titles and page numbers where the similes appear.

6 Philosophy Sessions for years 1-4

If you have never tried philosophy before these lessons are a good starting point! The children really enjoy these discussions/debates! Based on ideas from Philosophy 4 children everything is explained in the lesson plans. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! The children sit in a circle and take turns to discuss what they think the answer to the question is-saying whether they agree or disagree with another child. They improve their listening, speaking and reasoning skills and learn that there is not always one right answer to a question.
