In this lesson there is a link to a really good song about square numbers and I have put the song words on here. The Venn sheet comes from the nrich website and there is a link on here too. The categories on the Venn are square numbers and odd. The lesson includes a starter and plenary. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

(4)
At SNOW STORES find something extra special for Winter, items range from an inflatable igloo to a snow dragon! PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! There is a picture and price list and the children have to decide which items they would purchase and find the total and then answer various questions requiring them to add and finding totals. The price list and question sheets could be adapted to make easier or harder.

maths Compass Point question cards and answers KS2

(18)
Photocopy and cut up the 18 questions on to card and place on each table. The children will need to know about compass points including NW, NE etc. This lesson helps them to understand quarter turns, half turns and three-quarter turns, compass points and anti-clockwise and clockwise. Practise with the children and see if they can follow instructions themselves, getting them to e.g. face North, turn a quarter turn anti-clockwise. The Smart board introduces the lesson and there is a quiz. The children can mark their work at the end.PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

Year 3 /4 Art Patch Work Project

(9)
The children really enjoy creating a beautiful symmetrical piece of patch work which can be hung together all year as a lovely colourful display. I am proud of my original idea, inspired by a book on Amish patchwork. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! No sowing involved! I used fabric glue instead! A great project for the autumn term. The Smart board slides show examples of what the patch work piece might look like but the slides and lesson plans take them step by step through creating their own unique piece. There is an overview of the project with learning objectives.

Maths Money Maze Using and Applying KS2

(7)
This is a Smart Board resource I have made to go with the activity from the nrich website. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! There is a link here to find the other resources/sheets you will need from the website. I have also made a recording sheet and a plenary sheet. The main aim of the lesson is to get the children to record their work as they go along, but they are also practising adding and subtraction skills. I have allowed calculators to be used but this could be made more challenging by not allowing them!

SB lesson subtraction finding the difference

(3)
This is a lesson which introduces children to working out subtraction by finding the difference between the two 2-digit numbers numbers by using a number line. Follow the lesson and then on the SB there are 8 sums, 1 star and 8 sums, 2 star for them can choose from. I let them choose which level to start on. If they finish ask them to do the other sums. They must use a number line each time. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! I have attached a blank mult square for the starter. Plenary is marking their work-answers on the SB.

Homework Yr5/6 Maths Minecraft, Wimpy Kid

(3)
I used this homework with a year 5 group. The children had to think of four word problems related to Minecraft, Diary of a Wimpy Kid etc.Talk through some examples with them. When you get the homework back choose the ones that are clear and make sense to photocopy for their next homework. They were actually enthusiastic about this homework! Please leave feedback.

KS2 Division + Remainders Challenge, 5 stages + SB

(5)
This is very motivational and fun but does assume children will have already got a good understanding of division with remainders! Follow the Smart board to understand what to do. The children try to answer the 10 division with remainders questions on each card as quickly as possible and then self mark before moving on to the next stage. Only let them have one stage at a time. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!The questions get harder but it is possible for some to complete all 5 stages in a lesson!

Number Sudoku 4x4, 6x6 grid+ Smartboard Yr 2/3/4

(8)
The children pick this up quickly once they grasp the concept of not repeating the number is any row, column and section. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! Use the Smart board to show this, which recaps the Sudoku with shapes instead of numbers lesson which is best to do first (see my other resources for this.) I gave them the 4 by 4 grid first and once they marked it they could get the 6x6 grid. I gave them a sticker for each sheet they completed!

Maths Using and Applying Sweet Shop Money Problem

(13)
This is from the nrich website and is called 'The Puzzling sweetshop&'. The children have to work out which sweets the characters can buy with 10p, 20p and 50p. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! The children have to answer the questions, trying to work out which sweets were bought. I have made a Smart Board resource and worksheet to go with this and hints and teachers&'; notes can be found on the website.

Word problems- How many packets are needed? Yr3/4

(7)
Cut up these questions and put on the desks for the children to answer. They can record the answers in their book, making sure they write down the number of the question and use the answer sheet at the end to self mark. For each question they have to use their knowledge of counting in 3s, 5s, and 6s etc to work out how many packets are needed. For all the questions they have to buy extra packets as the number they need to does not fit in perfectly.

PROJECT:Design a fun indoor maths play area - KS2

(7)
This is a project designed to last for a week, but it could be longer, where the children can use their imaginations to plan an indoor play area for children with a maths theme to it. As designers they have to think about how a fun indoor area might teach children more about 2D and 3D shape, times tables, capacity and money. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! Encourage them to research on the internet and use maths dictionaries to find out names of harder 2D/3D shapes etc so they are learning new things and consolidating their own skills at the same time.Use the photos to help generate ideas!

All children can have the same card. Words include right/left/clockwise/anti-clockwise/N/E/S/W etc with a little arrow or symbol next to each. Highlight or circle 4/5 words. Teacher mimes the word and children put their hand up to guess which word it is. If they have it tick or put a counter on it. Winner is first to get all 4/5 and stand up and shout BINGO!. Sticker for winner! Ideal starter/ plenary game. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

(6)
Children choose from a list of numbers and have to work out all the multiplication sums that could make that number in total. There is an answer sheet for them at the end and a plenary/reflection sheet. They can only multiply 2 numbers (but you could make it harder by allowing more) and they are told how many possible ways there are. if you use it PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

Making 3D Skeleton Shapes Challenge Yr 2/3/4/5

(20)
The children are introduced to the activity on the smart board slides and have to try to guess what the task is about. This is challenging as they will have to think for themselves. You need drinking straws and blue tac. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! It helps the children to understand the vocabulary related to 3D shapes, such as shape names, 'edges' and &'vertices&'; and it aids their measuring skills too. There is a link on the slides to this activity which is taken from the nrich website. Take photos as you do the activity as the shapes are fragile.

Different Nets of Cubes Challenge Year 2/3/4/5

(13)
PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! The children are given a net of a cube separated in two parts and they have to work out the different ways to stick the two parts together so that the two pieces make a cube when folded. It works well when the children work in pairs. There is another activity in case any of them solve it quickly, but it look them longer than I thought so you might not need the second activity. There is a link of the smart board slides to the activity and the sheets you will need, which are from the nrich maths website. Please leave feedback!

Square numbers song and lyrics and Smartboard

This is a great song I have found to help children understand square numbers. I have made a song sheet to go with this and there are parts for simple instruments too. If you have a Smart Board there is a square numbers lesson related to this too. I have included a link to the song. Enjoy! PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!
