These 4 PowerPoint (which all contain animated slides) lessons feature plenty of visual explanations of dividing a fraction by a whole number (by finding the equivalent fraction) and also the quicker method. Prior learning recommended: equivalent fractions and putting fractions into their simplest form. There are lots of differentiated practice questions with the answers of the next slide. For independent work, there is a differentiated slide which can be printed as a worksheet or the pupils can work from the board (if you want to save paper!). I have included the answers at the end to save teacher time -why not get your class to mark their own work!

An entire four lessons on algebra (solving equations) that I have used to teach my year 6 class. This is a reading comprehension that I gave my year 6 class for homework based on the first part of chapter 1 of the novel ‘When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit’. It inludes the text, questions and answers. It was also part of my efforts to encourage my class to read the actual book which is in our class library! The comprehension has 11 questions that are suitable for your LA, MA and HA children. The questions are a mixture of retrieval and inference.

These are 3 whole lessons on Powerpoint that I used to do a lot of revision of the formal written method of with my y6 class last year (they needed the extra practice!). They include lots of opportunities to discuss and model the method, differentiated practice questions (which they can answer on whiteboards) with answers on the next slide so the teacher can quickly check. on each lesson, there is a slide with the Learning Objective and a challenge the children to complete once they have finished independent work. The penultimate slide can be printed off and handed out as a worksheet (subtraction question are differentiated three ways: blue for LAs, orange for MAs and red for HAs). This can also be displayed on the board and the class choose their own level of difficulty. The final slide is the answers which you can use to get the class to mark their own work or the teacher to use -both save time!

I used this with my year 6 class as part of the topic of Animals: Including Humans. We researched ways to keep the bodies healthy. The research sheet is below and needs to be blown up to A3. The week after we completed this, we created leaflets on how staying healthy using the research.

This is a cross-curricular lesson that I did with my year 6 class when learning about World War 2. The slides explain the background and lead up to Dunkirk. There are video links to the film ( I showed short clips of these) alongside my description of what it was like. The class loved the videos! I wrote two poems to model what I wanted from them. They came up with some really lovely, emotive poetry.

This is a non-fiction reading comprehension that I gave my year 6 class for homework based on the famous, record-breaking tennis player Emma Raducanu. It inludes the text, questions and answers. The comprehension has 9 questions that are suitable for your LA, MA and HA children. The questions involve a mixture of skills such as retrieval, inference, explanation and vocabulary skills. I have included the answers at the end of the Word document.

This is a sequence of English writing lessons that I did with my year 6 class based on the book ‘Otto the autobiography of a teddy bear’ by Tomi Ungerer. The writing sequence could last for 2-3 weeks or longer. The unit finishes with the class writing a newspaper article. All the lessons before that build up towards writing a newspaper article. We looked at parenthesis, direct and reported speech, analysing features of newspaper articles, looking at witness quotations with drama. On Word documents, I have included examples of newspaper articles to analyse, the plans we used, a model of the final newspaper article which the teacher can use when doing Shared writing and a template for them to write their final edited piece on. I have also included a newspaper article which is biased and the author is sceptical about whether the events are true or not. I got my higher writers to analyse this and then finally got them to write their article biased as an extra challenge. Please read the notes on the PowerPoint slides so extra suggestions.

This is a lesson that I did with my year 6 class once we had revised missing angles around a whole turn and on a straight line. The lesson contains lots of differentiated opportunities for practice on whiteboards. The PowerPoint has printable worksheets for your LAs, MAs and HAs with the answers so that you can same some of your valuable teacher time!

This is a lesson that completed with my year 6 class to revise the features of 3D shapes. I would highly recommend you have a box of actual 3D shapes for this lesson as seeing the actual 3D objects will really secure their knowledge. I have a worksheet inolving identifying the featyres that I got my class to complete in pairs using the 3D shapes.

This lesson is one I taught to my year 6 class. The teaching covers a range of properties of 2D shapes. Regular or irregular, parallel and perpendicular lines, types of angles (reflex, acute, right angle or obtuse), names of shapes. The lesson finishes with the class filling out a table identifying features of 2D shapes mentioned in the main teaching. These are differentiated for LA, MA and HA.
