This comprehension has an extract that outlines the origins of Bonfire Night. It takes the pupils through the various events that led up to the evening and what happened as a result. The questions then test the pupils on various skills e.g. identifying types of words, straightforward knowledge testing and identifying similar words.

I have used all of these worksheets and presentations to analyse war poetry at KS3 level. The presentations include context and analysis of the poems and the worksheets allow for further annotation. One worksheet can also be sued for group work to analyse the poems in stanzas. A presentation and worksheet focus on how to effectively compare and structure the two pieces of war poetry.
