ADVANCED CHRISTMAS LESSON – THE BEST CHRISTMAS GIFT This fun, interactive, colourful and graphic PowerPoint presentation introduces young learners to English vocabulary relating to Christmas. This is perfect for online teachers to share with their students. Read the story A beautiful Christmas story from https://freekidsbooks.org/greatest-christmas-gift/ The student will read the illustrated story forwarded with the Lesson Plan, in class. While reading the story, any words not understood by the student, will be explained. After reading the story there will also be a vocabulary exercise as well as some comprehension questions about the story, which the student will need to answer using full complete sentences. Word Picture Match Match a few words from the story to the correct picture cards. • hedgehog • squirrel • mole • fireplace • snowstorm • footprints • scarf • sled (sleigh) • gifts • skates Comprehension Questions Learners answer simple questions about the story. Discussion Points Learners are encouraged to talk about interesting aspects of the story. Christmas around the world We all celebrate Christmas differently. Watch a short video about how different countries celebrate Christmas. (YouTube link provided) What is a Christmas Carol? A Christmas carol is a song or hymn about Christmas, that is sung during the Christmas holiday season. Read the words of Rudolph the red nosed reindeer and then sing along to the video. (link provided) Story Wiz Board Game Win the game by completing the tasks correctly and collecting all the different colour story books first, to complete your library. (instructions are included at the end of the slide presentation) Children love Christmas and this is a wonderful opportunity for them to learn and practice English while having fun.
