These two friendship assemblies are a fantastic way to introduce children to the value of friendship and how to be a good friend. You could use these for a primary school, KS1 only, KS2 only or in class. You will receive a 25-slide PowerPoint that can easily be edited to be made shorter or divided into another assembly, a 13-slide PowerPoint and a PDF file containing teacher notes for each presentation. This Roman Mosaic Art unit is perfect to use alongside a fascinating Roman history topic or study of the volcanic eruption in the ancient Italian city of Pompeii. Children will study mosaics from the city of Pompeii, discuss what they were used for and how they were made (learning key techniques used by mosaic artists). They will then choose a marine animal to sketch onto a grid before using this as a guide to paint it. Once dry, they will cut out the squares and stick them onto backing paper using the techniques they have studied. These three lessons are perfect to be used during a half term, with a couple of lessons spare in case of any absences or other school events. This African mask unit can be used across Art and Design & Technology to help children to design and create their own African mask inspired by the culture and traditions of many different African cultures. By the end of this unit, the children will have created their own wearable African mask made from clay. The children will be able to present some key facts about the use of masks in different cultures. They will extend their understanding of the mosaicking technique and practise using sculpting materials with confidence. In this lesson the children will be reviewing what they know about masks and making them out of clay. By the end of the lesson they should have a clear idea of what their mask will look like. In this lesson the children will start to create their mask from clay. They should review their flow diagram from last lesson and be able to use a variety of tools to manipulate the clay ready for decoration.
