This PowerPoint goes through the mathematics needed to calculate Kinetic, Work Done and Gravitational Potential Energy. It builds on and reviews velocity calculations. There are two versions of a step-by-step object on a slope experiment which will enable pupils to test the equating of the formulae for Kinetic energy and Work Done and utilise this for calculating braking forces due to friction.

This is a detailed lesson and PowerPoint explain the uses of radiation, dosage to patients and two examples of non-medical uses. This is the eleventh lesson in the Atomic Structure unit of work (P4). The lesson covers the selection criteria for isotopes and uses Technetium as an example, enables consideration for balancing and weighing risks to patients and includes data of common treatments. A one page worksheet has been included as a short activity to enable pupils to graph the data and think about the risks of therapy. There is a detailed lesson plan with notes on teaching, a PowerPoint to support the lesson and a worksheet to aid in delivery / test understanding. There are also ideas for homework tasks and differentiation tasks that can be used by a teacher to develop the lesson further.

This is a detailed lesson and PowerPoint discussing radioactive waste, irradiation and contamination. This is the ninth lesson in the Atomic Structure unit of work (P4). The lesson covers the following learning objectives from the syllabus documentation: • Radioactive contamination is the unwanted presence of materials containing radioactive atoms on other materials. • Irradiation is the process of exposing an object to nuclear radiation. • The irradiated object does not become radioactive. • Suitable precautions must be taken to protect against any hazard • Understanding that it is important for the findings of studies into the effects of radiation on humans to be published and shared with other scientists so that the findings can be checked by peer review. • Hazards associated with radioactive material differ according to the half-life involved. There is a detailed lesson plan with notes on teaching and a PowerPoint (12 slides).

This is the twelfth lesson in the Atomic Structure unit of work (P4). The lesson covers the basic idea of splitting the atomic nucleus from neutron capture and expressing this as a diagram and nuclear equation. Chain reactions, nuclear bombs and nuclear power are also used to discuss fission in context. The good and bad aspects of fission are used to stimulate a discussion with a differentiated task list for pupils to then create work of their own on the topic. There is a detailed lesson plan with notes on teaching this topic as well as ideas to assist the teacher in differentiating the lesson and setting homework; a PowerPoint also supports the lesson.
