Pike - Ted Hughes - Poetry - KS3 - KS4
19 Slide Powerpoint Presentation that is designed to be used over 3-4 one hour lessons (depending on ability). This mini-scheme leads students on a learning journey through Ted Hughes' poem, Pike. It starts with a pre-learning activity on fishing, and goes through vocabulary, imagery, annotation and analysis, theme exploration, quote finding, writers methods (language techniques). Complete with learning objectives, starters, plenaries, pair work, links to multimedia resources, this is perfect for a stand-alone mini unit on poetry, or as part of a larger unit on poetry. I've used for top set y9 but is also suitable for mid-higher sets across all KS3.
Poetry lesson PP Limerick and Haiku
A PowerPoint presentation designed to teach the poetic forms of Limerick and Haiku to older KS2 or younger KS3 Students. Could be used to cover one extended lessons or split between two shorter lessons. Could also be used over two longer lessons depending on the ability of your class.
Keywords, starter activities, learning objectives and activities included, along with opportunities to create own poetry. Can be adapted up or down.
Can be used as a standalone project or within a poetry unit.
Creative writing vocab builder and Writing prompt lessons AQA Language Paper 1 A05 AO6
A presentation with supporting worksheets to help students improve their vocabulary in order to meet AO5/6 for AQA Language Paper 1 Section 2. This should last 3 1 hour lessons, but can be extended/condensed to suit different time constraints. There are links made to the mark scheme for AQA GCSE Language paper 1 section b, followed by a vocabulary building exercise (thesauruses/internet access required) and a writing prompt image to allow students to use their new vocabulary. Peer assessment and success criteria included.
