Lesson on Egyptian society. Students start by discussing democracy in the UK. Students are then assigned a role within the Egyptian social pyramid (11 roles in all) and they are to go around the classroom and interact with other students as their character. Students will then complete the worksheet highlighting the responsibilities of each role, the benefits and the drawbacks. Students will then debate how Ancient Egypt might have been if democracy had been introduced but will argue from the point of their character.

History lesson on Ancient Greek medicine. Students will begin by discussing health in Ancient Egypt; recapping on the progress made as well as the aspects of Egyptian medicine that held back progress. Students will then be presented with an ‘information explosion’ with limited instructions and lots of information on each table. Students will then complete a research worksheet on each of the pieces of information. Students are to then complete an answer to the question ‘How effective was Greek medicine’ using the differentiated help sheets.

History lesson on how the Ancient Greeks governed themselves. Students are to recap on previous knowledge on how the Ancient Egyptians were governed before looking at Ancient Greek methods. Students will then look at the similarities and differences between todays governance and that of 2500 years ago. Students are then assigned a role within Greek society and it will be their job to share this information with classmates as they go around the room to investigate the other 7 roles. Worksheet is provided for students to complete during the last task.

A KS3 History lesson centred on Irish independence. Students will look at Ireland as part of Britain before the First World War before looking at Nationalist and Unionist divisions and the Easter Rising. Students will look at sources and answer questions throughout the lesson.

A KS4 AQA History lesson on the failure of the war plans at the start of the First World War. Students will look at the early stages of the Schlieffen Plan which leads to the Battle of the Marne. Students will look at Belgian resistance here with a source analysis task. Students will then move on towards the origins of trench warfare with the race to the sea before looking at Russian involvement on Germany’s Eastern Front. This lesson ends with a source analysis question based on early Russian dominance against the Austro-Hungarians.

A KS4 AQA History Lesson centred on how the technology in the skies were used during the First World War. Students investigate how planes were first used, the different types of planes used by both sides as well as the aces that flew them. Students will have questions to answer and sources to analyze.

A KS4 AQA History lesson based on the naval interactions during the First World War. Students will investigate the Battle of Jutland, the sinking of the Lusitania, submarine warfare and the naval blockade of Germany. Students have some GCSE question, general questions and sources to analyze.

A KS4 AQA History lesson centred on Russia leaving the war in 1917. Students will investigate life during the First World War under the Tsar’s leadership and how the war eroded confidence in him. The two revolutions are covered as well as the abdication of the Tsar. Russia’s signing of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk draws an end to it’s involvement in the First World War. Students will be exposed to sources and exam style questions.

A KS3 History lesson on evacuation during the Second World War. This lesson can be broken into two one-hour lessons. The first looks at the reasons for evacuation looking at first hand accounts of the process. The second looks at the experiences during evacuation, again looking at sources. Questions are asked throughout the lesson to check for understanding and develop source analysis.

A KS3 History lesson looking at Hitler’s ambition of invading Britain and Britain’s attempts to resist this via the RAF. Students then go on to see Churchill’s impact post-war and the legacy that he left behind using source analysis to assist in this. A KS3 History lesson based around complexities of cowardice during the First World War. Students focus on a specific case study, that of Private Harry Farr, and they are to assess the evidence for and against his cowardice. This usually stretches over two lessons; the first looking at the prosecution’s side of the story and the second looking at Farr (the defendant’s) side of the story. Students complete tasks at the end of the lessons to conclude if the outcome was justified.

A KS3 History lesson on the origins of trench warfare. This lesson usually stretches over 2 hours and looks at the reason behind ‘digging in’ and the features of a trench. Students will read first hand accounts of life in the trenches and the combat seen by soldiers there.
