Phonics Intervention Planning

Planning that I used for holding an intervention group during my training. Planning includes a variety of fun interactive games for children, most of the activities planned to be help outside but can also be used in the classroom! Planned with Phase 5 in mind, however you could definitely adapt the planning to fit other Phonics Phases through the words you use within the activities. Planning covers nearly 3 weeks (3 sessions per week), final week there is only 1 session as I had events on the other 2 sessions (E-Safety day and Circus Topic day), includes list of resources for each session and space to write notes on intervention group children etc. Word document file, so can be edited and adapted to suit your group and children.

Comparative and Superlative Adjective Worksheet (KS1)

KS1 worksheet activity; children roll the dice and depending on the number rolled, they will add either ‘er’ or ‘est’ to the end of the words in the table - creating either a comparative or superlative adjective. Turning a dull subject into something a bit more fun! I used this with my mixed Year 1 and 2 class during a formally observed lesson and it went down amazingly! Great warm-up activity before getting children to write their own sentences with comparative/superlative adjectives. Children worked in mixed ability pairs to complete (a child of each year group).

ie, igh, y and i_e - Phonics Worksheet - KS1

Phonics worksheet used with KS1 children (I used this with my mixed Year 1 and 2 class during my training). Worksheet was great for getting the children to identify the different spelling of the /i/ sound and organise the words. Box with selection of words containing /i/ sound, need sorting and writing into the correct grapheme balloons!

Circus Story Writing PowerPoint (KS1)

PowerPoint Presentation with step by step on how to write a circus story! each step has a slide discussing what to include in that section (e.g. Step 1: Opening of the story - introduce the characters, what can you see/smell/hear etc) and then a WAGOLL (example to model with). Fun activity for KS1 children, I used this PowerPoint when my mixed Year 1 and 2 class were writing their big creative writes (their topic had been on the circus).

Riddles Worksheet (LKS2 - Year 3)

A worksheet containing riddles for a Year 3 class I worked with. The lesson was for them to recognise the structure of riddles and be able to solve them (a nice fun lesson!) I gave the children the riddles, then after 10 minutes gave them a clue to help, and after a further 10 minutes I then gave them options of answers to choose from. ***Answers **(from left to right) are: Zebra, Clock, Library, Sun, Pencil, Shoes)
