Lessons for the OCR: A Level Early Tudors course, covering Henry VII (threats and foreign policy), Henry VIII (Henry and Wolsey, and reign after 1529), Edward VI (stability, religion and rebellion) and some on Mary (stability, religion and threats to reign). A KS3 designed lesson on the morality of the British Empire. This lesson focuses on key events and features of the British Empire such as: The Boer concentration camps The Amritsar Massacre Exacerbating the Irish Famine The Transatlantic Slave Trade The Commonwealth The spread of democracy There are contextual slides on the British Empire to start, as well as a thought-provoking starter for class discussion. This lesson has a clear set of objectives and outcomes to ensure clarity and purpose. The main task is a search and find activity, in which students fill out cards with a summary of the event, its date and an opinion line of ‘good’ or ‘bad’. The activity following focuses on scholarship (interpretations) with clear graded tasks.

This lesson focuses primarily on four events that have shaped the progress of the people of England from 1215 to 1832. Realistically this will need two lessons to complete.
