A resource consisting of 2 documents a worksheet on pathogens and a crossword for high ability students

Take your students on a virtual tour of London. Students are issued with a London Underground Map and they follow the tube routes. As they do this they will collect money for each station that they visit providing they answer the question correctly or complete the task! Routes are differentiated so perfectly suited to mixed achievement groups.

An activity that gradually builds on rounding and estimating skills.

Ideal activities to use alongside Oxford textbooks for cover or revision. The activities are designed to force students to engage with text without simply copying. Instructions Students read the text and then take list keywords and bullet points for the most important facts. Higher students - rank their bullet points in order of importance and justify their choices. Foundation students can use their notes to draft longer written answers.

Objective: To better understand and use keywords in the cells and diffusion topic. Who is it for: Scientists who have poor literacy, recall and spelling skills. Differentiation opportunities: Use the Spiderman Glossary for struggling scientists. What is in the resource? - Spiderman themed glossary comic - Dominoes activity matching key words with definitions - Activity circle with 6 activities. To use this I put students in groups of 3, each student choosing 2 of the activities. Alternatively you could use this as a "hot potato" activity by giving students a set time (3 minutes) to start the task and then they have to pass their work on to the person on their left. They will then continue where the previous student left off etc. - Giant Wordsearch and hidden message - Kinasthetic activity where students have to unjumble a sentence relating the topic. Wherever possible I have included the answers.

A quiz with a difference. The first slide presents the answer to a question. Students have to construct the answer using only the words given. There are 7 of these puzzles in total. How to use: Show students the first slide, give them 30 seconds to try to come up with the answer. If no one gets it correct, the next slide is shown, with some of the words in the correct place. Students are again given 30 seconds to try to come up with the answer. Answers are provided.

Suitable for SEN and Foundation Students it has been designed to be engaging and accessible for the reluctant reader. Although I have included the cards with the resource, I usually ask students to study cards at home and then they can choose either the answer search or letter jumble. The activity lasts about 20 minutes.

This resource consists of a multiple choice quiz with answer sheet and a link word activity. Instructions on the link word are provided and follow below. Link Words Students placed in groups of two and given a relevant textbook. Working as a team, using glossaries, text book, internet etc. students then force a relationship between as many of the words as they can by making coherent sentences with their chosen words… They can either:- 1. Write an sentence using the two words that clearly explains how they are linked. See examples below * ___________ is linked to _________ because __________________. *. ________ is linked to ______ an example is ______________. *. ________ is similar to ________ because ________________. *. _______ is different to ________ because _______________. *. We can use _________________ to ____________ because _________. 2. Simply make sentences using as many of the words from the sheet as possible. To differentiate the task the words carry a number score. A high ability student would have a far higher score than a lower ability student. This forces the higher level student to choose words that have a higher value ie more difficult to make connections to. Encourage students to use as many words as they can in their EXPLANATION as they will be added to their scores.
