Lesson 1 Lesson and simple practical Heat and Temperature Aim: To see whether boiling water will cool faster if a cold metal cube is placed inside the beaker. Objectives Recognise what we mean by ‘temperature’. Describe how differences in temperature can cause heat energy to transfer. Explain the difference between heat and temperature Lesson 2 Lesson and simple practical conservation of Energy GPE, KE Aim To see if the height at which we drop an object will affect the size of the crater it makes. To describe energy transfer between gravitational potential energy and kinetic energy. Explain how energy is conserved when objects fall

This resource includes 3 activities. Activity 1 Students analyse a distance time graph section by section. Activity 2 Students are asked to draw and analyse distance time graphs related to Polar Bear journeys. Activity 3 Jeopardy! Students write questions related to D-T graphs for given answers Highly engaging, in particular for reluctant readers!

Changes in Energy Stores - Growth Mindset, Differentiated activity

(1)
Objectives: Understand types of energy and energy stores Understand how energy can be transferred between stores. Understand energy transfer diagrams This is a fully differentiated activity where students can choose their own level of challenge, allowing for low-threat, high-challenge. This activity has been run successfully as both an independent homework activity, or paired class work activity.

Differentiated Kinetic Energy and Gravitational Potential Energy Magazine Project

Objectives: To perform calculations relating to KE and GPE To improve math skill through metacognition activity To understand the relation between Kinetic Energy, GPE and Conservation of Energy. Differentiate through the activities, some of which are simpler than others, or through group work or task choice. This magazine-type activity has always been a firm favourite with my groups. Working in groups or as a longer homework project it is designed to get students thinking about energy in real terms and the importance of correctly showing mathematical method.

Kinetic Energy and Gravitational Potential Energy Magazine Activity

This magazine-type activity has always been a firm favourite with my groups. Put students in groups and have them work through the metacognition, calculations and understanding activities, or this can be set as a long-term homework. The key is to allow them to "get on with it" and source help from peers, text etc. At the end of the activity I usually do a peer assessment and then a directed feedback task.

2018 Physics - Work Done and GPE Stores - Flipped Learning

(0)
An engaging presentation ideal for flipped learning purposes or to use in class before a practical. The presentation focuses on these objectives: - What happens to GPE stores when an object is lifted - Why objects are easier to lift on the moon - Calculating GPE store changes - what causes a lifted object to have increase in GPE stores - how work done can be related to GPE

These 3 resources each form a large circular shape, ideal for group work. There is also space for students to show their calculations, corrections etc. This is a very useful for peer to peer revision/learning in a low stress environment. The answers are provided. This was made using Formulator Tarsia and the original files have been included if you need to amend.

These activities work best in pairs and I've found that they are very good at building resilience and independence. The students are given the problems and answers, but are asked to show their working out and meta cognitive processes - teaching them how to problem solve and apply their ideas.
