'Frankenstein' Play Scheme of Work (Phillip Pullman)
This two term SoW is desgined for Year 8, mixed ability and runs across two terms. The SoW is differentiated with challenge tasks and scaffolding to target all abilities. Its primary focus is to encourage a love of the play and to strengthen analysis of language and structural methods. However, there is a strong Literacy element embedded to improve these core skills. Everything has been designed to be as creative and enjoyable as possible.
Creative Writing Scheme of Work
A Creative Writing scheme of work designed to run across one term, pitched at Year 9 pupils. This scheme of work includes extracts to model successful creative writing, as well as encouraging an appreciation of the writer’s craft. Pupils develop their writing skills as they respond to various stimuli and scenarios from different genres.
'The Merchant of Venice' by William Shakespeare
A scheme of work designed to run across two terms, suitable for Year 8 pupils, particularly good for stretch and challenge.
'A Midsummer Night's Dream' by William Shakespeare
A scheme of work that runs for roughly a term and a half. This encourages a real love of the comedy play and is filled with a range of activities that encourage active reading skills and analytical skills.
'Much Ado About Nothing' by William Shakespeare
This scheme of work is designed to run across two terms and is pitched at Year 7. It encourages a thorough reading of the play and an exploration of the themes that arise from this much loved comedy, strengthening pupils’ reading skills and encouraging them to write from various viewpoints.
'Of Mice and Men' by John Steinbeck & Poetry
A scheme of work designed to run across two terms. This really encourages a deep understanding of the context of the novel and the themes that are raised within it. Threaded throughout the scheme is a link to poems that connect with issues raised in the novel.
Travel Writing
This is a scheme of work designed to run across two terms. It explores a range of travel extracts from across the globe encouraging pupils to explore the writer’s intended purpose, audience and form, as well as the effect of their crafting of language. There is also a focus on the pupils becoming travel writers themselves and therefore a number of activities are included encouraging them to write their own travel descriptions. Literacy skills are embedded throughout the scheme. An ideal scheme to cover both reading and writing skills in a creative an accessible manner.
'Skellig' (David Almond) & Poetry Scheme of Work
This scheme of work runs across two terms. It covers the novel, together with an introduction to poetry, some of which includes William Blake and Shakespeare. The scheme is aimed at Year 7 and is full of creative tasks which strengthen both their reading and writing skills.
